What makes a great motivational speaker? How do they work their magic and make you feel like a world-beater after you have heard them speak? How do they make you feel like you can conquer any challenge set before you? As we examine their characteristics, some commonalities will become readily apparent.

Great motivational speakers know their audience. Great motivational speakers seek to inspire those with anecdotes grounded in the successful reality of others. They show you how you can overcome your obstacles by showing you how other people have overcome theirs. They do not talk down to you, but rather seek to lift you up. Finally, great motivational speakers tell you how you can equip yourself to handle any challenge.

They know their audience. If the topic of the day is an increase in an organization or individuals sales, they will speak the language of sales, marketing and success. They have the ability to relate to their audience through this language and press their emotional buttons, bringing about an emotional response and sometimes even whipping the crowd into an emotional frenzy punctuated with a "you can do it" or "yes you can" phrase.

The motivational speaker has a plethora of examples of how people just like you did it, became successful or turned their failures into accomplishment and achievement. These examples run straight to the heart of the matter, touching the audience with a kind of "if they can do it, so can I" mentality. In network marketing you often see this kind of motivation.

Great motivational speakers are masters at showing you how to overcome your issues, obstacles, challenges and even problems simply by pointing out how others have overcome similar circumstances. The great ones consistently pound home that theme until their audience begins to believe that they can do it too, whatever it is. That is what makes them great motivators, the ability to convince you that "yes you can."

If you want to become successful, the great motivational speaker will build you up, encourage you and ultimately lift you up above and beyond the circumstances you were in before you heard them speak. They do this by looking into the heart of the individuals who comprise the audience and make you feel that they are talking directly to you, regardless of how many people are around you. They have a way of penetrating your hard exterior and radiating their message of success until you belief what they are saying and buy into it with an "all in" mentality.

Once a great motivational speaker sees that you have "bought in" to what they are selling, they then equip you to conquer your own problems, challenges or even demons. Some sell actual products to continue the ambiance of the motivational environment like books, DVDs, videos, motivational CDs, newsletters, or subscription services designed to pump you up. The great ones know what buttons to push because they have done it a million times before and know precisely what to do.
