Getting rid of massive amounts of trash is a problem that many business owners face. It is very important to dispose of industrial trash in a safe and environmentally friendly way. There are several options when choosing an industrial trash compactor. There are self contained compactors, stationary compactors, vertical compactors, apartment style compactors, pre-crushers, and transfer station units. Choosing the right type for one's business is very important.

Self contained compactors are made to handle wet waste, but are also preferred by some to handle dry waste to avoid the mess associated with breaking away a stationary compactor. These units are designed for cafeterias, hotels, hospitals, schools, senior communities, and other businesses that create at least a hundred cubic yards of waste per week. Self contained compactors reduce haul frequency by seventy five percent. These units are available in single and twin cylinder, but the twin designs are more space saving.

Stationary compactors are designed to handle dry waste such as boxes, paper, plastic, and aluminum. These units are best suited for department stores, warehouses, and offices that generate at least a hundred cubic yards of waste per week. On these units, the container is attached to the compactor and the compactor is permanently attached to a concrete pad. Containers for these compactors are available in regular and larger sizes.

Vertical compactors are great for businesses where space for a unit is very limited. Businesses such as restaurants, grocery stores, apartment complexes, and motels will benefit the most by using this type of compactor.

An apartment compactor is also ideal for businesses with very small spaces. Its crossed cylinder mini design creates very powerful compaction in a small footprint. This unit is ideal for the trash rooms of high rise apartments or condominiums. Depending on the unit chosen, the business owner may be able to choose between a rear, side, or chute feed application.

Pre-crusher compactors work by reducing trash volume before it is compacted into the container by destroying larger items such as crates, pallets, electronics, furniture, barrels or other bulky items that can be difficult to compact. Pre-crushers offer double the compacting power of a standard stationary compactor. Stationary compactors and pre-crusher compactors work in much the same way, but pre-crushers have a detachable receiver container or box. These units offer up to 141,000 pounds of force with large charge box openings.

Transfer station systems are large garbage compactors that reduce hauling and labor costs by over fifty percent. They are best suited to country and municipal solid waste collection centers. They are able to handle oversized, hard to manage waste. They also screen waste to remove hazardous materials and recyclables while improving control over illegal dumping.

Whichever type of industrial trash compactor a business owner chooses, it needs a power unit to run it. Many power units come with very useful features such as timers to prevent unintended operation and automatic maintenance scheduling software that alerts the business owner when preventative maintenance is due. This keeps the compactor running at its highest efficiency and protects the business owner's investment.
