When I got married, I received some absolutely beautiful presents, but the best gift I got was a piece of advice I received at my bridal shower from one of my cousins. "Always greet your husband when he comes home and look pretty when you do!" I have found this tip to be very important in my relationship with my sweetheart because it motivates me to always look my best and it shows him how much I care about what he thinks of me. He appreciates it when he comes home to a clean woman who values him and the work he does each day. I would be sending the wrong message if I did as I am often tempted to do after a long day—take off the makeup, throw on my sweats and pull my hair in a ponytail. I think it is important that throughout our lives, we always put forth a little effort "doll up" in the afternoon. It doesn't take much, but by reapplying a little makeup you can definitely add vitality to your appearance.

In less than 15 minutes you can go from frazzled to dazzling before your husband gets home with a few little makeup tips. First of all, you have to understand that makeup, even the highest quality, simply cannot last all day. At some point in the mid to late afternoon, most women will notice the droopy eyeliner at the outside corner of the eyes, or the crease in the eye shadow. Your lipstick has probably worn off, your cheeks are not nearly as rosy and perky as they looked this morning and to top it all off, you may even have signs of oily skin.

To begin the touch up process, you should start by blotting off the extra oil from your face. This can be done with a makeup cloth sold at stores, a tissue, or even a piece of waxy paper used for hair permanents. Once this has been done, you can now smooth out your foundation and blush by softly buffing your face with a fresh makeup sponge. If you notice your eyes look a little dark, try applying some concealer underneath the eyes, as well as to any other blemishes or spots on the face that were not previously smoothed out. Now, you can add a little blush to your cheeks if your face needs a little brightening.

After your face and cheeks have the appearance you like, let's move up to the eyes. If your eyeliner has smeared, take the corner of a sponge and clear away the mess. You should not reapply eyeliner though at this point of the day; however if you desire to add a darker line around the eyelid, try using a dark eye shadow with the tip of an eye shadow applicator. This will give the illusion of framed eyes, but without the harshness a pencil creates. If you find your eye shadow has formed creases, use blotting paper to softly blot the area and even out the color using a small brush. Then, you can reapply the colors you think are necessary back onto the eyelids for a smooth and balanced look. Finally, you can reapply your lip liner, lipstick and lip-gloss to complete the glamorous facial touch up.

After a busy day, it should come as no surprise that your makeup has worn out. Your makeup was working just as hard as you were to make a good first impression throughout the day, so you should treat yourself to a little pampering in the evening and glam up. Beautifying yourself could be just what you need to stay cheerful for the remainder of the evening. Since it should take no more than a quarter hour, you definitely owe it to yourself to freshen up.
