When it comes to restaurant marketing today, you don't need a big budget to fill your restaurant. You can use Facebook in many ways that will bring guests and increase your income and profits. Some of these ideas take a small amount of money, others take no money but some work. Either way, they will do the job using today's hottest way to market. Why Have Friends On Facebook? We suggest you open a special account on Facebook for your restaurant. It's free! Then, you can attract as many Facbook friends as possible. If you get a large number, you can start a page where they can become fans and grow your list to huge numbers.

What's so good about friends?

You can send messages, specials, events etc with the click of a button. Your message will show up on their Facebook Wall and that means their friends will see it. You get a chance to interest all the friends of your friends. This is very powerful. Let's say you have 1,000 friends and they have on average 120 (that's the average number people have). You now get information about your restaurant to 120,000 people without spending a dime! That's the power of facebook. Don't Sell - Be Interesting If you come on too strong on Faceebook, you won't be popular but if you offer recipes, events, interesting information etc, people will look forward to hearing from you, so don't sell to fast or too hard. The idea is to develop friends for your restaurant who will come by for special events, new menu items etc. We have lots of suggestions on how to do this in our training videos. How To Find Lots Of Friends You can have up to 5,000 friends on Facbook. If you have more, you can start a "fan" page and get virtually unlimited numbers of fans.

So where do you get these friends?

Go to your home page on Facebook and open the Find Friends button. Go to the very bottom of the list of sources called "other tools". Now, you can put in any school and list of people who mention that school in their profile will pop up. What schools did you attend? What schools are near your restaurant? You can also find people who have a certain hometown listed, current city, high school and employer. Using these criteria, you will never run out of people to choose from. Chose a few people from the list and send them a "friend request". Be sure to personalize it and not make it look like you are selling anything. For example, let's assume you went to Amherst High School and you are targeting people who went there too. You might send a friend request with a comment like "Hi, this is Bob. I see you went Amherst High. I did as well. Now, I own The Greystome Restaurant in Amherst. I always make others from our school right at home. Drop by some time and I'll buy you a free dessert. "

Don't Go Crazy With It

If you use this method, you should only contact 20 to 30 people per day with friend requests. If you do too many, Facebook may suspend your account for bothering people. Twenty per day doesn't sound like much but let's assume you do it every day for a month. That's 600 people you send a personal friend request and invitation to stop by to. That's 7,200 people per year. Let's say every member of your staff does the same. How many invitations is that per month? Will they all come out? Not all of them. Will they all accept your invitation to be friends? No again. However, many will and you will be building a powerful database for free that you can send events, specials, recipes, pictures and videos to about your restaurant. Best of all, it's free!

This article reveals just the tip of the iceberg. You can use ads that only show on a customer's birthday or only to people who work for a specific company. You can promote so many ways on Facebook. It's innovative restaurant marketing at its best.
