The Internet is constantly changing and evolving and successful internet marketers stay one step ahead of these changes. This article discusses five ways to generate leads that used to work but don't work now.

Using Lots Of Keywords On Your Web Pages

There was a time when stuffing the same key words all over your web page would get high rankings. Some people even put key words in white on the page so only the search engines could see them. Search engines have gotten smarter and now, you will be penalized by search engines for such tactics. You may hear that this page loading works but it now actually costs you ratings by the search engines who are on to this form of manipulation.

Today, the best way it to create good content that is designed for human readers, since search engines are more like humans every day. If people like what you wrote, so will the search engines. It is still a good idea to use keywords in the titles, subtitles and file names.

Blog Commenting

If you are a blog master, you probably hate this form of spamming. People use automated programs to visit your site, make a comment like, "Nice site, thanks a lot" and then they leave a link to their site. This annoying practice once worked well but is not profitable now. The search engines have developed "no follow" policies and most blog software allows administrators to automatically remove this kind of spamming.

Link Exchanges

Google counts artificial link exchanges and purchases as a violation of terms. The search engines have ways to tell if your links are valid and from appropriate sites. Buying links and fake link exchange schemes will not work and will cost you points with the major search engines.

Many scam artists are still selling links, so be careful. The best way to get links is to offer testimonials to vendors you work with or write articles for trade magazines with a link in your bio box.

Search Engine Submission

Many years ago in internet time, you had to submit your site to search engines if you wanted it listed. Some scam artists still charge for this service. Now, as the search engines compete for fresh content, they find new content quickly and list it automatically. There is no need to submit it. You can get more pages listed by having a good site map that is compatible with the formats used by the search engines. Be sure to avoid these and other outdated methods of search engine optimization.

Don't assume stories you have heard of what works are true. Get good quality training on search engine optimization. It isn't expensive and will quickly pay for itself in increased online sales and increased internet traffic.
