Right now Iranian students, demonstrators, freedom fighters and just plain folks are counting on Twitter to provide them an opportunity to tell the world their story. Twitter actually stopped a planned server upgrade in order to allow this to happen.
Now, if that doesn't prove the importance of Twitter nothing will. It's not just a gimmick but rather an incredible tool that just hasn't reached it's potential. You can now participate in the growth of this rapidly growing tool both personally and for you online or 'brick and mortar' business.
In this brief article I want to give you hold-outs five (5) reasons to start Twittering now.....
Reason #1: If it's good enough for John McCain it should be fine for you. Now, I am not particularly a fan of John McCain. However, if Twitter has gotten to someone who hasn't used a computer during most of his life, there is something there.
Reason #2: It's Free. That's right! I know that usually free stuff stinks but that is not the case here. Twitter is still free and hopefully will stay that way. For that reason it is accessible to just about anyone with a computer. Imagine, a whole world of people just looking to tweet.
Reason #3: Followers To Be Proud Of. There are certain rules one never disobeys when marketing any product, on or off line. That rule is targeting. It just doesn't pay to distribute your message to people that have no interest in your product or service. Sure, Twitter is free but why waste your time and possibly antagonize uninterested followers. There are tools, such as Twellow (The Yellow Pages for Twitter) that allow you to find people with similar interests. You can then send then follow those people with similar interests. Roughly 45% of those people you follow will follow you back. A great way to increase your presence on Twitter.
Reason #4:No Such Thing As SPAM - Now this is not totally true. Twitter has rapidly become a place for just about any type of offer disguised as a tweet. The only advantage here is you have tremendous control of who you allow to follow you. If you're getting too much tweets from one particular Follower, you can just remove them from your Following list. Real simple to do and no more SPAM.
Reason #5: The Skies The Limit - Twitter is only crawling. It hasn't even learned to walk yet alone run. Imagine where this application will be in six months, a year or more. Getting involved now by creating a huge group of Followers will provide you with a great opportunity to either relate and communicate with other like minded people or, if you prefer, sell a load of stuff to a targeted market.
As I write this article I am starting to grow my own list of Followers going from just about 300 to over 4500 in just a few weeks. I now have three Twitter accounts with a total of over 7500 followers between the three profiles. If you're looking to grow your presence on Twitter there are tons of tools available and most of them are FREE as well. You just need to know where to find them.
At the Newbie Phenomenon we have over thirty tools, software programs, courses and eBooks on Twitter alone. Enough to keep you busy for quite a while.
Conclusion: Don't wait! This is the time to get involved in not only sites like Twitter but in other social network sites like MySpace, Facebook and LinkedIn. Go find your home...your comfort zone and start interacting with people just like you. Do it from your computer. Tweet from your phone. Have fun.
