Because the world of reality TV shows have opened our eyes to how easy getting face surgery can be, people are often misled about the true score behind it. Most of the time, when we watch reality shows about cosmetic surgery, the men and women emerge perfect and beautiful in the end, looking young and as fit as they had when they were young. However, what the camera did not include is the pain they had to undergo, the months of waiting for the wounds and bruising to heal, and complications that could have risen before or after the surgery.

So before taking the plunge and getting face surgery, get yourself acquainted with some facts and tips to guide you.

Getting face surgery sure has its advantages and benefits. With face surgery, you can keep people guessing what's your age as it could defeat signs of ageing, decreasing the appearance of wrinkles and giving you tighter and tauter facial skin. As we age, we lose skin elasticity and muscle tone, and we develop wrinkles, sags, and bags as a result of shrinking fatty tissue. But with facial surgery, we can reverse the effects of aging and bring about a new and rejuvenated appearance.

However, there are also drawbacks and disadvantages to cosmetic or plastic surgery. A face surgery could bring potential harm such as damaging the nerves in your face, making it unable to sense and feel. Frequently, one also experiences puffiness, staining, and vomiting or nausea. Blood loss could occur, clotting of blood, accumulation of fluid, or numbness. In extreme cases, permanent damage to the nervous system, pulmonary embolus or clotting of blood, fat embolus or clotting of the fats, or malignant hypothermia could occur.

To make your cosmetic surgery as painless as possible, it helps to get a good surgeon. Ask around for qualified surgeons with a lot of expertise and experience in the field of cosmetic surgery. Some questions you might want to ask includes their educational qualification, whether they are a member of any professional body, where and how long they have been practicing, how many procedures he has done in the previous year, and whether they have committed any mistakes in the past. It also helps to get references of the doctor's previous patients, so you can call them up and inquire about their experiences, and whether they are satisfied with the results of their surgery.

Other things you might want to know are the details of your facial surgery. You want to know which types of procedures you are getting, where the treatment will be done, what types of anesthesia will be administered, how long the procedure will take, the time of recovery, the lifespan of results, and who will be taking care of you during the procedure.

You will be putting your physical beauty and wellbeing on the line so make sure that before you go for a face surgery, you know what to expect. Know that it's not a fairytale where there are no side effects, and be extra careful in choosing a surgeon.
