These days natural acne treatment is the most favoured way for many people of managing their acne, and other skin problems. This of course is in no small way due to the much lower cost of natural remedies and their much reduced side-effects as opposed to more conventional chemical based treatments.

Tens of thousands of acne sufferers all over the world have spent numerous dollars on the latest advertised products that promise a miracle cure. Usually to be sadly disappointed when they don't deliver.

Natural acne treatments do offer a viable, and effective, as well as low cost alternative. They can also be usually easily sourced and used in the privacy of your own home. Here we will go through just a few that you can try for yourself.

Just to kick off, at the risk of teaching my granny to suck eggs here, just a brief, simple overview of the basic cause of acne. This is of course not definitive, there are many factors, but here goes anyway. Bacteria are probably the commonest, and oldest, life form on the planet. They are everywhere, they cannot be avoided. They are certainly not all harmful to us. Many are in fact beneficial, if not indispensible.

The bacteria we as acne sufferers are concerned with are those bacterial enzymes that break down the triglyceride lipids in sebum into free fatty acids. The body's response to the resulting inflammation is to summon white blood cells to the area to fight the invading bacteria, resulting in the familiar spots and pustules.

Right, lesson over, what can we do to help ourselves without resorting to expensive proprietory chemical based products, using predominantly natural acne treatment.

Acne can respond well to treatment with retinoids, OK this does sound like a chemical based product, but is in fact produced from vitamin A. These are principally in the form of creams and lotions that are applied externally to the affected area. They work by opening clogged pores, allowing accumulated debris to drain without squeezing (you know not to do that don't you?)

Another weapon in the natural arsenal against acne is Tea-Tree oil. This is a well known natural antiseptic, commonly available, even in some supermarkets. This can be applied directly to your spots as it comes, using something like cotton wool. Or you can dilute it by about 75% with either water, or jojoba oil is very good, and use it as a face wash. Well, any area you are affected really.

Apart from it's well known antiseptic properties, Tea-Tree oil helps to dry out the excess oils in the skin. This helps to reduce the development of acne. If you are interested, Tea-Tree oil comes from the Australian Melaleuca tree, and it's properties were first discovered by the native aboriginals, who called it the Ti-Tree, so now you know.

You can also make and drink herbal water. There are many different recipes for herbal water, but an excellent one for the treatment of acne is to boil an ear of corn, together with a tablespoonful of fenugreek seeds in about two quarts of water. Strain into a suitable container, allow to cool. Keep it in your fridge, and drink as much as you like during the course of the day.

As well as helping your acne by keeping your liver flushed and healthy (the liver deals with excess hormones in the body, and these can aggravate the condition), you are also maintaining your water intake, and most of us do not drink enough water. Also, it's a pleasant drink.

Coconut oil is an excellent natural acne treatment. Again it's commonly available, and you just apply it as a lotion to the affected areas, as often as practical throughout the day, and at bedtime. You can also benefit from taking coconut oil internally. It has a pleasant, mild taste, take a spoonful three times a day. It comes as a liquid or semi-solid cream. The cream is easiest to use. It also makes a good alternative to butter if you want to avoid dairy products.

There are many more natural treatments for your acne and I shall be exploring some more of them in a future article. Start trying some of these remedies for yourself. Save your cash and do away with those nasty side effects.
