Are you feeling the pull to run your own show? Have you been "working" at a hobby and want to take it public to sell, teach or market? Perhaps you've been "creating" behind the scenes and think it's time to take center stage. Or you've just completed training or certification and you're ready to deliver the talent and expertise in the coaching, wellness or other field and truly want to make a "profitable" go of it!
Congratulations!
It's time to take the steps to shed the employee's clothing, one layer at a time, and reveal the entrepreneur (or solopreneur) within...
Here are three easy steps to tell if you're really an entrepreneur in employees clothing.
1. You're secretly telling the world about your product, service or talent! You go to networking events, parties and in other arenas of your life, you quietly talk about something you're "working on" or a new skill you've developed that people would "pay" for if they knew about it. You tell as many people as you can because you never know who they know, who may be looking for just the thing you offer! And deep down inside, you're having fun doing it! You look for the next opportunity to connect with people online and offline to tell them, secretly...
2. You're offering some free advice, coaching or suggestions to gauge reaction... By listening and sharing some free information you're testing the waters and the pressure is removed for both you and your potential client, making it a really powerful and pleasant experience. As a result you're experiencing the delivery of your product or service and get great free feedback, which you use to improve your approach the next time. You're excited to explore these client challenges the help them create great results in their life and your enthusiasm grows with each conversation.
3. You're really into learning more about business and marketing, and it's not part of your job. You've become a sponge in absorbing all you can about business. Learning about different marketing techniques and strategies are now where you're spending your time online or in the bookstore. You're seeking out mentors, coaches and consultants who can give you insight into what may work for your business. But don't stop there, commit to ongoing learning to grow yourself, in your spare time. You may even commit to attending at least one workshop or seminar a year to learn and meet others who can help you.
If just one of these 3 steps sounds like you, you're likely an entrepreneur in employee's clothing. It's time to tell the world, get some experience and continue to learn while planning your brilliant transition to the world of the business owner. There are more tools, resources and people now available to help you create this entrepreneurial life that's teasing you. No longer should you or your talent be the best kept secret. Your clients and partners are waiting for you! So update your wardrobe with the outfit of confident business builder and get out there!
