I think this happens most every year and at about the same time… It's kind of like the awards season that just wrapped with the Oscars.

Have you noticed that there are a MULTITUDE of online business owners offering "telesummits."

If you're unfamiliar with the term "telesummit," it's actually a cool idea. As you know, building a list of subscribers who are interested in who you are, what you do and how you can help them is important to the growth of your business.

One way to build that "list" is to bring together a group of experts around a specific topic or subject of interest and interview them. Those who have an interest in your topic will subscribe to learn more and it therefore builds your list. The beauty of the "telesummit," is that you can add a LOT of subscribers in a short amount of time. In fact, there are some online business owners for whom this is their SOLE business.

Of course, as a business owner, you have to monetize the "telesummit" and that comes from marketing the recordings as a package before, during and after the event.

Now there is a lot more to the "telesummit" process - a WHOLE LOT MORE. Like…selecting the right topic, speakers, setting up the website to support subscribers, creating affiliate programs, marketing the "telesummit," etc. Phew! When you commit to doing one, it truly has to be your only focus! So business owners invest a lot of time, effort and some money to support bringing the "telesummit" to you.

I give you that as a backdrop, because as you may have seen a plethora of telesummits being offered and the emails filling your inbox, just know that there is a lot of effort going on in the background to get to that point. But I know that may not be your first thought as your inbox fills! It certainly wasn't for me…

And so I decided to think about how I could leverage what was happening in my inbox. I discovered something that makes you "smack your forehead" and say a big Homer Simpson "DOH"! And…I KNEW I had to share this with you!

My marketing training has taught me to leverage what works. If something is working, do more of it. Why in the world would you reinvent the wheel? This works for business owners who want to go into business, without a lot of time and money invested by creating a new market. Go, where there is already an interest and buyers for the product or service.

So as I watched a flood of "telesummit" invitations fill my inbox, on Facebook and Twitter I started paying attention to the titles of the telesummits and the presentations. I was really enjoying the "word play" and thought, hey if these titles are "playing well" and "getting attention" - even my own, then what can I learn or leverage from this?

Now, I am NOT talking about stealing other people's work! You know for yourself, if you've come up with a title that's just awesome for you, you sure don't want anyone to steal it - word for word. So that's not what I'm talking about.

Let me give you an example to make it clear…

This was the title of a presentation during a recent "telesummit", "The 6 Steps To Quickly Creating, Marketing, and Selling Your Products And Services At Premium Prices"

So imagine if you were a Web Designer… You could use this title to create: "The 3 steps to quickly create and market your website to high paying clients."

See what I mean? Take the information that really "hits you between the eyes" and leverage it to create a topic that works for you! This is particularly useful if you're new to creating powerful messaging to attract more leads, prospects and clients.

By the way, this is similar to what copywriters call the "swipe" file. They maintain a list of headlines that grab them, or direct mail pieces that are great at communicating the features and benefits of products. They use these pieces to inspire and help them create their own copy. So it's a time-honored practice, no need to feel guilt…UNLESS…you copy it word for word. It takes a little creativity to make it your own, but it's a great way to start, with less time and anxiety, right?

Now when you see those emails coming into your inbox, don't get mad instead create a "swipe file" or folder on your computer and keep these gems for when you're ready to create that next presentation, teleseminar or product!

Here's to many more "telesummit" seasons…smile
