Being in a car accident can be a very dramatic event, knowing how to avoid or prevent a car accident is something everyone should try to do. There are millions drivers in the United States, which means there are going to be accidents happening every day- we can't totally eliminate accidents, but we can prevent some of them. When most accidents happen it's usually only between a car or two, therefore you don't realize how many people actually die each year from car accidents alone. There are about 110 fatal car accidents per day nationwide. However, this number varies depending on the day.
Getting behind the wheel to drive is risky enough, but you may be placing yourself at an even higher risk depending on what time of day you do your driving. Can you guess which day of the week is the most dangerous for driving? Saturday is the most dangerous day to drive, a lot of people have the day off from work and are out and about doing things so there is bound to be more traffic on the roads.
There tends to be less traffic and deadly accidents during the week on days like Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Obviously people can't pick and choose which days they are going to drive, but this information can be used to help prevent accidents by letting people know they should expect heavier traffic on certain days so they can be prepared. It might also influence your decision of when to leave for a long road trip. Want to know the busiest time to drive? The weekends of course! If you must drive during times where your risk of getting into an accident is the highest, there are certain things you can do to protect yourself and your passengers.
- Wear your seat belt and ask your passengers to do the same
- Drive the right speed for the condition of your surroundings- driving too fast is the most common mistake that drivers make, it is also the most dangerous mistake
- Pay attention to the road- Don't get distracted
These may seem like basic, common sense things most people should already be doing, but they aren't. These are some of the reasons people are getting into accidents in fact, 95% of crashes are caused by human error, which proves that people are getting distracted on the road by numerous things such as passengers, their surroundings, text messaging, talking on the phone, daydreaming, and so on. People aren't taking driving as serious as they should; human behavior is accountable for most crashes. They next time you decide to venture out for the day or on a trip, be sure you are prepared and please try to minimize your distractions so you can be a better driver.
