Have you ever thought about using vegetable oil for fuel? Did you ever think that gasoline prices would go over $4 a gallon? There was a time when people switched to diesel fuel because it was cheaper, but now it costs more than regular gas. If the world really is running out of oil, then why aren't there more mandatory ways to save fuel. Why are big cars with poor gas mileage still being built? If fuel additives really work, then why aren't they put in all gasoline. If they don't work, why are they allowed to be sold.

If vegetable oil works to run a vehicle, then why is it not a better option than it is? A diesel car can run on either diesel or vegetable oil. Is there a reason why car owners are not making the switch? It seems like it would be a simple option, but what is involved in making vegetable oil. Right now restaurants throw away 100 million gallons of oil waste every year, but the amount of gas consumed by Americans is 140 billion gallons, or a whole lot more. Since the environment is a concern and the world is running out of fossil fuels, why isn't vegetable oil more known about. It is biodegradable, so the harm it will do to the environment is none.

Should people be concerned with the reliability of vegetable oil and how it affects the engine? According to history, the engine designed by Rudolph Diesel was capable of running on vegetable oil. In 1900, it was displayed in Paris at the World Exhibition, but the days of the vegetable-powered diesel engine were few, because it was more economical to use petroleum diesel. That is why it is not a surprise that vegetable oil can run a modern diesel engine vehicle.

It is hard to tell how well vegetable oil works, because of conflicting testimonies from car owners who have switched. Some say that coking of the engine is sped up by vegetable oil, while others claim there is no effect on the engine. A major issue then becomes the question of reliability, but most people trying vegetable oil on older trucks are not having any problems. Some owners are running their engines safely by using conversion kits, while others are using a filtration process, before the vegetable oil goes in their gas tank. There are other owners who even make their vegetable oil more viscous by mixing it with fluids. If there is a problem that could cause an engine breakdown, the possible factors could only be speculated on.

When the results are not yet in on how well your engine would work on vegetable oil, it is hard to get excited about it. It would be nice to find an alternative fuel that was guaranteed to give proven results to use instead of what we have right now.
