For some people, organic is a magical word, but is food from an organic garden really as safe as everyone says it is? Everywhere you go any more, there is talk about organic gardening. Do you buy organically grown fruits and vegetables, and do you ever wonder if they really are as good for you as they say? By the time you finish this article, you may have read some things that will make you think.

There was a study done recently, by a scientist in the United Kingdom, that showed that there were measurable levels of pesticides and chemicals in 33% of the food sold in the UK. These chemicals were used to enhance the crops, and are known to be harmful to the human body. The same study showed that this was true throughout the developed world, and the levels of contamination were almost the same, and it wasn't any different for organic food. The contamination was mainly caused by the water in the ground that was consumed by the plants. For years, chemicals from fertilizers and pesticides have been spread over the ground to make the plants grow faster, and bigger.

These chemicals entered into the ground water tables, and are contaminating everything. Basically, the only way to not use this water is to use distilled water, but then you will be missing the proper nutrients. The contamination also was spread by the wind currents. Most of the fertilizers and pesticides are sprayed on the crops, so when the wind is blowing they can be carried anywhere. The air is full of contamination, from who knows what poisons, or where they come from, but they continually circle the globe. When they land on the ground it might be your organic garden.

So even if you are taking lots of precautions, you don't know what might be traveling around in the air. These pesticides can cause problems in both unborn children and newly born children. There is a lot of disease going around this planet, and how do we know that the causes of a lot of them don't come from the pesticides in the food. Some of the things these chemicals have been linked to are breakdown of the nervous system, certain kinds of cancer, and the weakening of the immune system, which can cause a lot of problems.

One thing that isn't as true as you might think and that is washing your vegetables will protect you. Some of these chemicals will leech through to the inside of the fruit or vegetable, so the chemicals are now inside the skin, so just washing the skin in this case won't do much good. Now that you have read this article, you should be able to see that organic foods still could have some chemicals in them. More than likely, they are still better than what you get from regular gardens.
