Gas prices will continue to fluctuate, but their overall destination is probably up. They certainly aren't going back to 25 cents a gallon. You are probably tired of seeing the price at the pump, and wonder what you can do about it. You can make more money to pay for it, or you can do without something else you use. You can quit driving so much, by car pooling, or taking the bus, or even walking more often.
Car pooling is a pain because you have to find people who will do it with you. You need to arrange everyone's schedule, which is not always convenient for everyone. You need to decide on who drives, and when, or how often. Then you need to figure out how much everyone has to pay, which will probably cause a problem with at least one person. It would be easiest if one person drove all of the time with the car that got the best gas mileage, but how do you decide how much it is worth to drive every day. Maybe you don't feel comfortable riding in a car when someone else is driving.
You could get a smaller car, but who wants to do that when they can drive a nice car that is big enough. The option that makes the most sense is buying a hybrid. But does a hybrid car really save you money. A hybrid car saves some people money, and other people it doesn't. You might wonder how this is possible, but for people who don't drive very often, like a stay at home mom, those who fill up their tank maybe one in a month or two, they don't save much money. Especially when you figure in how much it cost to buy the hybrid. If most of your driving is on the highways, you won't save much either, because a hybrid saves gas when it is re-powering its batteries by stopping. But for someone who commutes to work every day in start and stop traffic, having a hybrid would probably save a lot of money.
About the only way you will know how much having a hybrid will save you money is by keeping track of how much you spent before the hybrid, and how much you now spend after the hybrid. Since a hybrid car varies when it uses gas and when the electric motor, it is hard to get an exact read on how many miles per gallon your car gets. It could change every time you fill up, so you should keep accurate records to find out how much you are spending.
If you want to save money on fuel you should buy a hybrid. When you add in the extra cost for buying the hybrid you might lose money in the long run, but you might not. You have to save enough money on gas to make up the difference in price, and that will depend on how much you drive and how much you save.
