There is much thought and preparation that must go into planning UK loft conversions, so that you can make the best use of your property and increase the value of your home. Unsurprisingly, the first thing you need to do is to assess the roof space and examine the floors and walls, to measure their structural condition.

Building a loft conversion will of course necessitate the loft floor having to be significantly strengthened with the installation of beams to provide extra support to the walls also essential.

Whatever the structural work that needs to be done it will be well worth the effort once the work is completed. Of course, any structural alterations will form part of the overall design chosen for the loft conversion and that design can include anything from a master bedroom complete with en-suite to a fabulous kids playroom through to a luxurious office for those who run businesses from their home.

When you are looking at UK loft conversion prices it is good practice to obtain a number of quotes from builders and always ask for, and follow up, references for previous work. Of course, the price will depend first and foremost on the amount of work that needs to be done. For a loft that already has solid flooring, insulated walls, and a well built ceiling, the costs will be much lower. However, if flooring needs to be installed, walls need to be insulated, and the ceiling needs to be redone, there is going to be quite a difference in cost.

If you are converting your loft in London, you are probably going to be looking at about £50,000. Throughout the UK there will be regional variations , with the price for a full loft conversion likely to be between £18,000 and £35,000 pounds. These are costs that are added up when you use a loft conversion company, however, they can be drastically reduced if you are willing to do some or all of the work yourself.

Some UK loft conversion companies will build a 'shell' conversion in which all the structural work is done but the householder is left to finish the internal work. This of course is a much cheaper option than having a full loft conversion built and is the preferred option of many property owners.

If you are only looking to convert your loft into a storage space than this can be done reasonably cheaply. Including flooring, lighting, and a loft ladder, the cost will only be around £1-£2,000. Again, If you are able to do most of the finishing work on your own, you'll find that your costs are lowered.
