There are a myriad of types of stationery today and almost as many popular and unique ways to use them. Paper production is no longer limited to cotton and wood fiber combinations. Some hobbyists use colorful paper to fold delicate origami birds. Photo enthusiasts sometimes use a sheet of stationery to add some personality to their framed photography projects. Below are just a few stationery types and the standard and unique ways people are using them.

PARCHMENT

Parchment is most often used for hand-written letters, especially letters written in calligraphy style. It is available in several colors and weights. True parchment was originally made from sheep skins or calf skins. Today there are vegetable leaf varieties. Diplomas, award certificates and wedding invitations are often printed on this elegant paper.

100% COTTON OR LINEN

This paper is made using cotton fabric pieces. It is highly durable and will last for many years. People use this medium for wedding announcements, thank you cards and invitations, important documents and historically significant communications. It is very expensive, so most businesses do not use this stationery type for everyday purposes.

BOND

Bond paper is formed by laying sheets of paper on top of each other until the thickness desired is achieved. It has a slightly textured look and feel and you can see a woven pattern on the surface. Most often this paper is used for commercial purposes like business communication and forms.

VELLUM

Vellum is a very thin, opaque version of parchment. Vellum is normally used for making a carbon copy of a correspondence; however, it can be used as tracing paper or as a protective sheet between other printed materials. Vellum has been used by home bakers to separate layers of baked goods when shipping cookies or crackers. It works well as a transfer paper with a computer generated transfer or a hand drawn design with a transfer pencil. This technique is used to create T-Shirt transfers and embroidery transfer patterns.

DESIGNER AND GIFT STATIONERY

This category covers a large variety of options. It includes letterhead with raised or embossed lettering. Choosing a unique color or background design to fit your personality, or that of a friend, is easy and fun. Post cards, note cards and letter writing stock are all plentiful.

Whether you are looking for types of stationery to write a letter, make an award or invitations or you want a unique gift wrapping, you will find colorful and exciting stationery types available today.

Using white glossy, cotton, specialty, parchment paper and much more is a great way to dress up any correspondence or award. Daisy Emert uses decorative paper whenever she writes to any one or gives an award to an employee.
