Did that big shot speaking at the network marketing meeting tell you to "follow the proven system"? Then go on to tell you to make a "warm list" (list of personal contacts), buy company promotional material, buy extra product to "place" with prospects, hold home parties, attend and bring prospects to hotel meetings, get business cards, and make flyers to hand out at the mall.

If these are the components of the "proven system", or business plan, it is a broken down, oil leaking, rusty system made up of outdated methods and faulty techniques that have caused the terrible numbers of a 97% failure rate in this industry. What is even worse is, aside from being ineffective; it can actually kill your chances of success and ruin your personal relationships.

The only thing this "proven plan" does aside from running your friends away is cause a huge percentage of people to hate the industry as a whole. This is a terrible shame too because the whole concept of cutting out the middleman in retail is logical and it is a morally correct and inherently good business as proven by what it takes to become an income leader.

You can only succeed if you figure out how to help others succeed and whoever helps the most people succeed in their own business makes the most money. The 8 reasons why that "old school" system only works for a small percentage of people are;

1. Most companies lie to their prospects about the fact that network marketing is SALES.

2. New distributors are given no proper marketing training or mostly ineffective and poor methods to use.

3. The most common sales methods taught are annoying "door to door", street corner, or telemarketing type tactics that are a lot like banging your prospects over the head with your business opportunity.

4. The "anyone can do this" idea is like throwing mud against the wall to see what sticks and is largely responsible for the 97% failure rate and the negative reputation of the industry.

5. Since the sales methods don't work for everyone, desperate people will resort to hype and exaggeration to trick prospects into signing up.

6. Too many sponsors use the "need more motivation" or belief excuse for failure instead of concentrating on solid, fundamental, proper marketing techniques.

7. Prospects are led to believe it will be easy to build their business and are guaranteed of success on the strength of an unbeatable product and an awesome compensation plan.

8. Sign-ups are advised that EVERYONE is a prospect which means millions of people have had the daylights pestered out of them and have become enemies of the whole industry.

Nobody with experience in marketing would ever try to sell to someone who has no interest, much less, chase after those who already hate the industry. The key to success in this business is to use a marketing plan or system that allows customers or interested opportunity seekers to find you not the other way around.

Think about it! If you are chasing folks about your opportunity you are considered a nuisance. But if those who are looking, do their search, and find you because you were positioned correctly, now you are seen as an expert or leader. People don't like to be "sold" to because they don't want to feel as if something is being forced on them.

If you use those "old school" methods for recruiting and they don't work and your sponsor tells you that you need more motivation or a bigger "why" he is really saying you need to do MORE of what isn't working. How do you really think that is going to work?

It would be like having the absolute best tasting hamburgers ever but everyone you can find has just left an endless buffet table. If no one is hungry you will not be able to sell any of them. You need a plan that will put you in position where those that are interested can find you and an automatic system that will weed out the tire kickers and consistently supply you with interested prospects so your time will be productive.
