French has been coined as "the language of love" and is deemed as one of the most romantic languages in the world. Studies show that in 2006, approximately 120 million people all over the world (with roughly 50 million of them living in France) can fluently speak the language.

Apart from the fact that millions of people can speak French, it is also a very useful language especially in business. Moreover, it is used in numerous international organizations which include EU, NATO and the United Nations.

In learning how to speak French, one must remember that in mastering any language, one must fluently speak and write it. In addition, one must have complete listening and reading comprehension when taking up any language. It is then recommended that in order for a person to be fluent in French, he or she must be completely immersed in it. Unfortunately, for those who cannot move to France and learn the language first-hand from the locals, one can opt to learn French in their own native land.

Another way to learn French would be to take up French lessons. Some might suggest that one can learn to speak French by using tools such as tape recordings; though it is more advisable to take up classes. This is because it would grant the individual a more solid foundation for a more independent learning in the future. This type of exposure is recommended because listening to a fluent French speaker allows the person to know the correct grammar and pronunciation. In addition, one would be surrounded by people who are also learning French and would most often than not, practice on each other.

For those who are on a budget, a great way on how to speak French would be to start an online correspondence course. Not only is this far more affordable that taking lessons from institutions; it is also an ideal set-up for those who wish to have a more flexible schedule. In this type of setting, one would only need a microphone and webcam to get things started.

Purchasing several French books and reading them aloud is an educational way of going about it. This is because one can learn proper grammar and increase one's knowledge in vocabulary. Practice makes perfect so keep pronouncing those French words and try to include them in conversations. It is also a good idea to find a person who can speak and understand the language fluently.

Another clever way on how to speak French would be to enhance a person's conversational skills. This can be done by communicating with a native French speaker and paying him or her for their time. One can do this by posting an announcement online on several sites such as craigslist or by placing an ad on the local paper.

Lastly, media is a good medium for a person to learn how to speak French. Watching French movies with subtitles is a fun way to start understanding the language. Another entertaining way on to learn French would be to utilize the internet by using online streaming to listen to a French radio station. Even if one cannot comprehend everything that they hear, it would help pinpoint how to properly say words and to imitate accents, tones and inflections that these native French speakers use.
