When you plan your goals, try working backwards. Work back from the times that you have planned to reach your goals so that you can keep track of your short-term goals. This can help you think of your smaller goals as deadlines that you must meet. Mini-goals can boost your willpower and help you strive to achieve your long-term goal. Choose a date by which you want to reach your goals and work back from that point to establish short-term objectives that you intend to work toward in pursuit of your long-term goals. This way of thinking will cause you to want to accomplish the short term goals at a faster place because they now feel like deadlines instead of goals.
