If you are looking for a stable career with plenty of job prospects, you might want to consider the terrorism and security industry. There are thousands of jobs listed with the federal government in this industry at a number of agencies, such as The Department of Homeland Security, the Defense Intelligence Agency, the State Department, and several others.
Terrorism and security jobs span across many different fields - intelligence, protection, law enforcement, and information technology, just to name a few. The terrorism and security salary depends on the job, as well as skills and experience that you have when you are hired. Also, many intelligence and law enforcement jobs offer targeted local market supplement, which can add as much as 36 percent to your terrorism and security salary.
Below are descriptions of some positions currently being offered in the terrorism and security industry. The terrorism and security salary would depend on experience and education, but tend to be quite competitive.
--Supervisory Intelligence Officer (Terrorism) This position is with the Defense Intelligence Agency. The person hired will supervise a team of specialists in their day to day operations. They will ensure that terrorism intelligence programs are met. Knowledge of intelligence policies are required as well.
--Anti-Terrorism Officer Although this position is with the Army Installation Management Command, it is a civilian job. This job requires expert knowledge in anti-terrorism planning and policy development. If hired, you will develop an anti-terrorism awareness program and manage it.
--Chief, Worldwide Incidents Tracking Team This is a management position with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. The new hire will manage the Worldwide Incidents Tracking Team, which is responsible for documenting acts of terrorism. The data collected is compiled into official statistics that the State Department uses to create annual Country Reports on Terrorism.
--Intelligence Operations Specialist The U.S. Coast Guard posted this intelligence job, which is for an intelligence analyst who will be responsible for analyzing maritime security threats. The person is also responsible for writing guides and reports, as well as being a liaison within the intelligence community.
--Physical Security Specialist This security position with the Department of Defense, Defense Logistics Agency assists the Law Enforcement Program manager. In this role, the hired person will help in the development and implementation of policies and training for DLA law enforcement programs. They will also develop course materials for training law enforcement and will be responsible for the DLA Police accreditation process.
The above is a small fraction of the jobs available with the federal government. As you can see there are a wide variety of positions available. For more information on the terrorism and security salary associated with these careers, you can visit the agency websites.
To be qualified for these positions, you must have at least an education in the specific field. For instance, the jobs in intelligence require an understanding of intelligence basics like the intelligence cycle.
The intelligence cycle is the five-step process that is at the core of intelligence tradecraft. The steps are planning and direction, collection, processing, analysis and production, and dissemination. Every intelligence professional is well-acquainted with the intelligence cycle and its importance to intelligence work.
Even if the intelligence cycle is a completely new concept that you learned while reading this article, this does not mean that a career in terrorism and security is out of reach. There are intelligence studies degree programs available at many colleges, even online. These programs will teach you the ins and outs of terrorism, security, and intelligence ... including the intelligence cycle.
