Does The U.S. Military Have A Need For Intelligence Operations And Security Training?

The United States military is comprised of patriotic and career-minded Americans who believe in their mission. This fact is evident in the ability of all branches of service to recruit and retain quality individuals even within the context of a decade long war. However, there have been security breaches where service members have taken up arms against their own branch of service, and, by extension, their country. Questions about how such behavior can occur have gone unanswered and the potential for future homegrown attempts are an unfortunate reality. Do such security breaches call for more intelligence operations and security training within the military?

Some wonder if the terrorist sympathizing service member is reflective of a trend. And, if such a trend exists, intelligence related to the radicalization of U.S. service members will be invaluable to continued security. Such intelligence operations can prevent future attacks from within the military from occurring. The prevention of one homegrown military terrorist attack is so important that it is worth it for the military to make room for new counter terrorism careers. There is potential for the military to make room for counter terrorism careers, but like any career, the most qualified will be preferred for the job.

Online learning can be used by the working professional in military, government, or private settings to bolster their knowledge and marketability in certain areas. This is particularly true for counter terrorism careers and security training. A person who earns a counter terrorism degree online can continue to work in their regular job while also making a sound strategic decision for their future. The addition of a degree that focuses on counter terrorism will give the person credibility and likely consideration by employers for relevant positions.

The person seeking a counter terrorism career need not already be working in the field. The domain of counter terrorism is broad and encompasses many different disciplines and professions. In fact, the strength of the counter terrorism field is its ability to draw on different areas and to apply a diverse set of knowledge. For example, a person can have a background specifically in military intelligence training or terrorism studies, but they can also have a background in criminal justice or history. They can bring diverse academic training to the table, such as a Doctorate in Strategic Security or a Master's degree in Intelligence. Such diversity comes together in counter terrorism careers.

The person seeking a career in counter terrorism likely has a good prospect of employment. The prospect of employment is good because of the current and ongoing need for Global Security. Just within the military, we see the need for people with knowledge of intelligence operations, security training, and protection education. As was mentioned above, homegrown terrorist threats are real and a problem worthy of attention. An online degree in counter terrorism or a related field will help people join the fight against terrorism.
