Surgery of the nose, also known as Rhinoplasty improves the appearance and proportion of your nose, enhancing facial harmony and self-confidence. Rhinoplasty can change the nose size, width, tip, and profile and address asymmetry. Large nostrils are surgically reduced to improve both aesthetic contour and shape.
Surgery of the nose is performed either using a closed procedure, where incisions are hidden inside the nose, or an open procedure, where an incision is made across the columella (the narrow strip of tissue that separates the nostrils). Through these incisions, contouring of the nose can be performed. Once the underlying structure of the nose is sculpted to the desired shape, nasal skin and tissue is redraped and incisions are closed. You may have nasal packing that is removed on the third postoperative day.
Your results may in some cases be immediately noticeable, however you will see more of a change in 6-8 weeks following surgery, with continued refinement for 6-12 months. Cartilage is a flexible and growing tissue and some results are not fully predictable.
Nasal Packing: In some patients nasal packing is necessary, but is removed on the third day after surgery. With packing in place, you will have to breathe through your mouth and will need to keep your head elevated on two pillows while sleeping.
Nasal Splints: These are placed on the nose and are secured with adhesives and tape that are very important in both stabilizing the surgical site and for protection. The external splint is removed permanently between postoperative days 5-10. Dried blood around the nostrils can be removed gently with Q-tips and peroxide.
Cosmetic Surgery is a personal choice. It can slow down the effects of aging and help an individual regain the youthful changes they desire. Cosmetic Surgery should be preformed to create subtle changes to give a more natural appearance. Personal body improvements can be spiritual in nature, encouraging a sense of well being, or cosmetic, allowing you to see physical changes through body contouring enhancement.
Plastic Surgery is that area of medicine, which is devoted to reshaping the body involving face, breast and extremities. It deals with rejuvenation of the skin and combines surgical and laser technique. Reconstructive Surgery is that branch of medicine that involves utilizing healthy tissue from local and distant sites of the patient to help give natural contour to previously operated or deficient areas. Such areas include breast reconstruction after breast cancer and skin grafting after burn injury.
