A lot of people go into a cosmetic surgeon's office and request an eyelid lift procedure to correct an excess of skin that they have in their upper eyelids. Many times the actually problem lies within their brow. In these patients, the brow itself has actually fallen and has resulted in a "bunching" of upper eyelid skin. An aggressive removal of skin during an eyelid lift will typically pull the brow down even further which will just make the problem worse and possibly create a weary or tired appearance.

A forehead lift will set the eyebrows to a higher level and will stretch out the upper eyelid skin. Often times none of the skin will need to be remove, but if it does, many cosmetic surgeons choose to trim it later after the new brow position has been established. This is so that the two operations will not work against each other and eye closure will not become a problem. With a higher set eyebrow, patients will stop wrinkling their brows since there is no longer a need for conscious elevation.

A browlift also is capable of giving the surgeon access to the muscles between the eyebrows known as the corrugator muscles. These muscles are responsible for frowning and with their removal there is a decrease in the angry looking vertical lines with which many people are familiar. Though a sad fact, many people have prominent frown lines and appear angry even when they aren't.

A traditional brow lift will involve the coronal incision which passes from ear to ear over the top of the head. Since the introduction of the endoscopic brow lift, things have changed. The operation will be performed through five tiny incisions that are placed just behind the hairline using specialized instruments and a telescope. The cosmetic surgeon will be able to visualize the operative field on a high definition monitor. At first, many plastic surgeons thought that this was just going to be an expensive gimmick, but now it is the only way many surgeons perform brow lift surgery. The HD monitor will magnify and display the surgical field in ways that a human's eye cannot see. There will be both less sewing and cutting and the nerves supplying sensations to the scalp will not be divided like they are in a conventional brow lift procedure. Furthermore, many cosmetic surgeons feel that they can achieve a better release and lift than they could have before with the older method.
