Cosmetic surgeons will use facial implants to enhance and improve various contours of one's face. Often times, these implants will assist in providing a more harmonious balance to a person's face and their features so that they feel better about how they look. There are a wide variety of facial implants that are available and many are manufactured from a variety of materials. These implants can serve many different purposes including helping strengthen a jawline or bring the cheek or chin bones into a balance with the rest of a person's face.
Facial implants are also capable of enhancing one's appearance while bolstering their self esteem. If a person is looking for an improvement, but not perfection, in their appearance and they have realistic goals, they may find that a facial implant procedure is the right choice for them.
Cosmetic surgeons will often use these facial implants to bring a better balance to the features to a younger patient. For instance, a teenage girl may want to have her nose reshaped or for her chin to be brought forward so that these traits will be better proportioned. The more mature patients may choose to have an implant placed along with another cosmetic plastic surgery procedure. For example, during a rhytidectomy procedure, a patient may wish to have implants placed over their cheekbones in order to help restore a more youthful appearance. These facial implants may have also been selected in order to fill out a face that is appearing tired or "sunken."
Mentoplasty, or cosmetic chin surgery, is a surgical procedure performed to reshape a person's chin either through enhancement with the use of an implant or through reduction surgery on the bone. Many times a cosmetic surgeon will recommend cosmetic chin surgery to a patient who is having a nasal contouring procedure in order to achieve facial proportion. This is because the size of a person's chin may minimize or magnify the perceived size of their nose. Chin surgery will help provide harmonious balance to their facial features so that they can feel better about how they look.
As a person ages, fat from certain parts of their body will dissipate or reduce leading to step-offs and hollowness of their face, and around their eyes. Fat injection surgery known at fat transplantation or microfat injection, involve removing fat from an area of the body that contains an extra amount of fat. The fat cells that have been extracted will then be injected into the face in order to fill laugh lines between the mouth and nose or to fill sunken cheeks. It will also be used to correct depression or indentations in the skin as well as to minimize wrinkles on the forehead. Fat transfer surgery can also be used to enhance the lips or to improve the step-offs around one's eyelids.
Another excellent area for fat transfer is the hand. Though not thought of often, aging will show in one's hands. The tendons and veins in the hand will begin to become more visible which will give the hands an irregular contour full of blue and white cords. Fat injection into one's hands will replace the lost fullness thereby correcting the contour. The fat will also assist in hiding the veins and tendons on the back of the hand. Harvested fat will typically last longer than a synthetic filler such as collagen.
