Lanzarote has long been a popular winter sun destination, thanks to its year round warm weather. This winter in particular the Canary Island archipelago, to which Lanzarote belongs, has enjoyed warmer than usual temperatures through December to February. If you visit the island on a regular basis this will in all probability not surprise you as you will be used to the excellent climate here.

The statistics produced by the Spanish Meteorological Agency reveal that the islands have had their warmest winter since 1961 with an average temperature of 19.4º C recorded in coastal areas of the islands during this period, an increase of 1º C in comparison with previous years. This of course helps to consolidate Lanzarote´s position as one of the most popular winter sun destinations, with this winter the warmest since 1961.

This consistently good weather is what has made the island a favourite holiday destination for many people. It has an excellent mix of accommodation, providing a real choice in the style of vacation one can arrange.

These days, a growing number of holidaymakers will choose to stay in holiday villas in Lanzarote rather than opting for a package tour or hotel. As this provides a much more individual and comfortable type of stay, with many of the conveniences guests are used to at home. The island has a well developed tourist infrastructure already in place, with the oldest resort of Puerto del Carmen undergoing numerous improvements to keep its competitive edge. And Puerto del Carmen villas on the whole are based in the most exclusive areas of the town.

This creates a very attractive backdrop for holidaymakers who choose the resort for their visit. Whilst the newer resort in the south fares just as well with an huge range of Playa Blanca villas available which tend to range quite dramatically in size, price and style.

Playa Blanca and Puerto del Carmen both benefit from their own microclimates as well with daytime temperatures noticeably higher than in the north of the island. They also boast some of the best beaches to be found on the whole island, which are perfect for sun starved visitors to soak up the rays.

However, many of those staying in villas in Lanzarote have their own swimming pools and guests often hard to drag themselves away from their pool side. Although for those who do crave a little stimulation there is plenty to see and do on the island.

For a small island, it has a high number of attractions and sites of interest, which offer a good range of things to do, from cultural activities to sports. Many of these provide a unique insight into the lives of Canarians both historically and during the present. All of which means that even for those visitors who aren't´t big on sunbathing, there is plenty to entertain and interest on a holiday to Lanzarote.
