With the nights drawing in and a noticeable drop in temperatures quite a few people are beginning to consider there upcoming family holiday. But just because the sun is actually disappearing in mainland Europe doesn't mean that there aren't plenty of other destinations that enjoy year round sun such as the sun kissed island of Lanzarote.

Whilst many visitors are drawn here for the weather, Lanzarote delivers an explosion of colour when carnival season hits the island as well as many other sporting events that will leave spectators breathless just from watching. Also in addition to the year round events calendar should you find yourself suffering from relaxation overload from just lazing on the beach, you'll be able to spice up your holiday by visiting any one of the huge number of other attractions just waiting to be enjoyed come rain, wind or shine.

In the event that you may be looking at destination options for next years summer holiday then don't forget that June is an excellent time to take your vacation as is can be considerably cheaper than the high season on the one hand, and this period is also when the fiesta of Corpus Christ takes place too. Corpus Christi sees the celebration of famous biblical events depicted by seas of coloured salt displays to mark the many historic occasions.

On the accommodation front the end of the summer and the winter period sees increase in availability when it comes to holiday villas and apartments in Lanzarote, so luxury accommodation may be more affordable than other times in the holiday season. If you prefer flexibility and privacy on your holiday then a villa will prove to be ideal, and you'll also find that many have their own pool (you may want to check to see if this is heated if you're visiting in the cooler season). Apartments on the other hand tend to be in more public complexes with shared pools so these may not appeal to all.

Although the low season is quieter it is easy to be lulled into a false sense of security so be aware demand is still good even at this time of year so if you find a bargain holiday rental secure it quickly.

Having made your decision about accommodation cost and set your budgets the next obvious step is to choose a resort of course? If friends or relatives have visited before then they may have made recommendations, but if not you need to narrow down the choices somewhat. Do you want to cater for your self or eat out most days, do crave for the nightlife or are you one of lives early to bed brigade? Either way your ideal resort will depend on your answers.

Don't forget that Lanzarote has an excellent selection of rural villas too if you prefer a more tranquil setting, so you are not restricted to the main resorts alone.

The established resort of Puerto del Carmen is a firm favourite and often welcomes a high percentage of returning visitors which is hardly surprising if you've ever been here. You could spend your entire break on the beach but you wouldn't make the most of your holiday as you'll find plenty of nautical adventures close to hand too. Typically these range from a glass bottomed boat trip along the coast of the resort, to dolphin and whale hunting (visually of course). And if you fancy a full day out then take a trip to Fuerteventura on the Blue Delfin catamaran and enjoy the undersea views from the viewing windows. Once you decide to go to Lanzarote the only difficulty you'll probably face is which villa or resort to choose, but you'll be guaranteed a warm reception as well as excellent weather most of the year.

Lanzarote is not just a holiday sun destination, but it is also a year round sports activity destination with a wide range of sporting activities for visitors whose horizons extend beyond the sun kissed beaches.
