Let us get real for a moment. Water is very essential to life but depending on the government to give you the cleanest water possible is not just going to happen.

You'll need to have your own pure water system in your home if you want to have some peace of mind about the water that flows through your tap.

Now before you label me as a conspiracy theorist, here me out. Recent research by the Associated Press revealed the presence of pharmaceutical drugs in the tap water of some of the most popular big cities of America. Another article says that rocket fuel was found in tap water.

Now as frightening as these discoveries are, they are probably expected. For one thing, we live in a world that is heaving dependent on industry. Some of the materials those industries use are bound to get into our water supply one way or the other.

Secondly, the EPA sets a standard for drinking water contaminants that goes something like this. We will allow only "x" amount per liter of "chemical A" in tap water.

But this doesn't mean that an amount smaller than "x" is not allowed. Over time, consuming trace amounts of chemicals via a glass of water has been linked to cancer, infertility and Alzheimer's.

Quite frankly, it might be extremely costly and even impossible for the water authorities to obtain 100% removal of every possible contaminant. So, the best option you have is to acquire a pure water system and by that I mean a filter or purifier.

Drinking water has so many health benefits so why not ensure that your family's water is safer and healthier than just the municipal tap water.

There are a wide range of household pure water systems on the market that can remove contaminants like sediment, chlorine, lead, odor, bad taste and bacteria. Each pure water system has its own strengths and weaknesses so you'll need to do some research before you acquire one.

Also, you'll need to pay attention to the certification of the pure water system you intend on buying. Certification, which comes primarily from the NSF but can also be given from a reputable independent lab, tells the consumer that the product is of a good standard and is capable of removing certain contaminants.

So do yourself and your children a favor. Get a quality pure water system and see the difference it makes in their lives.
