Since the dawn of the Internet age, which was not so very long ago, a number of search engines have come and gone in popularity. The two strongest and most recognizable ones are easily Google and Yahoo. In fact, numerous users tend to favor one over the other for a variety of reasons; however, there are many people who switch back and forth, depending on what they are searching for. Many of those people tend to use Yahoo for what they consider to be fun searches and Google for the more serious stuff. For Internet marketers, this is a significant point.

In general, Yahoo is a much more commercial type of search engine in a variety of ways. It is filled with ads and pop-ups and lots of color and eye-candy to keep you entertained as you do your web searches. It offers continually changing information and news on its home page to keep those with short attention spans interested. However, the thing that sets Yahoo apart as a search engine to play on is it that ranks its searches according to which one is the top bidder. While you genuinely can earn a top spot in the searches, it is much more common to buy one.

Google, on the other hand, immediately impresses with its no-nonsense look. You understand right away that this search engine is different. It is sleek, professional and non-gimmicky. You are not overwhelmed with ads, useless information and offers. Google puts its serious side to work when it comes to search ranking also. Searches are listed according to how many important links it has to a given website. What this means is that the rankings are not determined by how much money a site owner has to invest, but by the relevancy of the site to the search being done. In fact, Google offers keyword and analytic tools designed to help marketers track traffic and better target ideal consumers that are often free and highly valuable in terms of page rank.

So, when you are striving to search for advice on shoes, games, shopping or other fun stuff, use Yahoo and you won't be disappointed. When looking to promote your business, increase website traffic, or seeking pertinent information on taxes, insurance and medical issues, opt for Google. You will get a better representation of what sites are available and you can feel comfortable that it is reliable information. Chances are you will find more relevant websites using Google. You may find them eventually on Yahoo, but it may take much longer.

Despite the fact that sales are necessary to finance commercial search engines like Yahoo, people do not seem to be too turned off from Yahoo use overall. It is still a very popular search engine and effectively provides information that many people are looking for. While Google has become a popular search engine, its growth has been somewhat stemmed by the fact that it does not advertise.

No matter what your search needs, the World Wide Web has a search engine to meet your needs and the answers to your questions at your fingertips. The diversity of having two very different search engines which are both popular fits the diversity of the World Wide Web. Get searching now in your choice of search engines and in no time, you're sure to find what you are looking for.
