Article marketing is one of the key promotional methods on the internet marketing scene. However, many people have abused the concept and now article directories are rejecting more articles than ever and many do not offer "dofollow" links any more. Even search engines are giving many article directories less weight.

With all of this in mind, it should be no surprise that some people have started to question the validity of article marketing. According to some people, "article marketing is dead"!

In reality, article marketing is still alive and kicking.

However most people are too busy buying into the myths that surround article marketing to be successful.

Here is a quick look at some of the myths that are being passed around.

Myth #1: Many people go into article marketing thinking that they only need to write 10 articles about a particular product in order to create a regular flow of affiliate sales.

Unfortunately, this simply isn't the case, and it never was. In order for article marketing to be successful now, you need to write and submit anywhere between 50 and 100 articles to a multitude of article directories. The only difference is that you may need to write a few extra articles nowadays as compared to a few years ago.

The myth of only writing 10 articles stemmed from people taking quotations and advice out of context. Many people said that they had only 5 or 10 articles that brought in all of their affiliate commissions for a product, however this doesn't mean that they only wrote 5 or 10 articles. You never know which articles are going to be successful which is why you write a large number of them.

Myth #2: Another myth that still surrounding article marketing strategies is that you need to submit your article to hundreds of directories. In reality, you will find that the niche that you are focusing on will only create conversions in a handful of article directories.

After submitting your first 5 or 10 articles, wait a few weeks and it will become easy to see which directories are the most effective. Then you can focus more of your time on writing and submitting articles to those directories instead of submitting them to directories that will not create any conversions.

The only reason that you might need to submit your articles to a large number of other directories is if you are trying to use them to gain backlinks.

Myth #3: A final myth about article marketing is that it is solely a numbers game. Some people will tell you that as long as you write X number of articles and submit them to Y number of directories that you will be successful.

In reality, it is more about quality than quantity. Of course, the more articles you write, the better off your article marketing efforts will be. However, volume at the expense of quality is a terrible trade. If your articles are not good quality, useful and engaging, they will not create conversions because no one will read them all the way through.

Article marketing is still alive and well, however it must be done correctly. By looking through the myths surrounding effective article marketing strategies, you can become successful at article marketing too.

Just remember that if you plan on writing articles, you will need to write a lot of them. Instead of submitting them to hundreds of article directories, only submit them to ones that will lead to conversions.

Finally, while article marketing is a numbers game, sacrificing quality for quantity is always a losing combination.
