Finding and Building a Successful Online Dating Relationship

An online dating relationship can be fun. It can also be a nightmare. And yes, it can also be so bland you might as well be eating beach sand. Your objective should be to meet the right single while also having fun.

Attitude may not be everything, but the right attitude sure does help. It is amazing how many people use online dating sites and chat rooms as a substitute for therapy. And they whine. They whine about their exes (most common), and they whine about other aspects of their life.

Naturally, these whiners rarely find a date, which in turn gives them something else to whine about. So the first thing you should do when seeking an online dating relationship is to cultivate a positive mental outlook and attitude.

Next, know what you want. You see, people have different interests and reasons for going online to find a relationship. For some it is a general (and vague) notion of simply finding a "date". You need to do better than that.

Exactly what type of relationship are you looking for? Do you want a short term or long term relationship? There are virtually all types dating sites to suit different interests and relationships.

If you want a serious, long term relationship or marriage there are dating sites for that. If one night stands are your thing, there are sites for that too. If you are seeking someone who shares the same religious faith and/or culture, there are dating services that cater for that. And there are even dating sites for hobbyists as well as fetishists.

In order to build great online dating relationships, your choice of dating site is crucial. And while it is tempting to go for free dating sites or social networking sites, this may not be the best option. Why?

You see, when someone is willing to pay a certain amount of money for a dating service membership, it means one thing; that person is serious. And seriousness does not just pertain to the seriousness of a relationship (as in the case of someone seeking a marriage partner). Even someone seeking a one night stand ought to be serious in that pursuit.

Another reason you want to avoid free dating services is that of security. On a free site, anyone can claim to be anybody or anything. You could have a sexual predator pretending to be a church minister.

Granted, this can also happen in a paid site, but there is one important difference. A paid site creates a paper trail. Whether using a credit card or bank account to make the membership fee, the person leaves footprints that can be traced back to him/her.

You should also be proactive in order to build a good online dating relationship. This means initiating contact. Don't just wait for things to happen: try to make them happen. This also goes to you ladies, as most of you tend to wait to be contacted.
