Gone are the days when dating was for the young and restless. Dating is now acceptable at all (adult) ages including senior citizens.
The over forty dating pool continues to grow. Indeed, with careers taking precedence in many peoples' lives, and baby boomers now past their forties, there are more older singles than ever before. Add to this, marriages that have ended in divorce, death and even drama. If you find yourself over forty and seeking a date... well, you're in good company.
Being in good company is a good thing; it means there are many people out just like yourself. You can choose to dive in and date within your age group or if you like them younger... well, it's a free world as long as you stay within the confines of the laws of the land.
First in the order of things as far as over forty dating advice goes; be yourself and act your age. We all would love to live in perpetual youth, and we may feel young at heart or even body. But the fact is, we are all aging. Yes, we can look back with nostalgia at days gone by, which is okay. But we must also come to terms with the not-so-sweet fact that we are no longer "spring chicken".
Ask any young girl or boy who loves to date older men or women. (And yes, there are such boys and girls). They will tell you that they prefer to older men or women who act their age. It is the maturity that attracts them, though the wallet has some magic too.
Yet it is amazing how many over forty men and women try to look and act like they are still twenty-something. An obviously older man in a nightclub, wearing a baseball hat backward or sideways and trying to do the latest jig is just not cool. Depending on how you look at it, it is either funny (and not in a good way) or annoying.
Not only that but, it is better when a young person is knowingly dating an older person. Then no one is fooling the other, and the younger person is less likely to dive under the table at the club when she/he spots someone she/he knows.
Many older singles find themselves back in the dating world, often after a long and steady relationship. Finding yourself suddenly single, whether through divorce or death of a spouse, can be intimidating. Dating can actually feel awkward at first.
Assuming that the grieving period is over, and you are psychologically and physiologically prepared to date again, you should not be afraid to date. You may not be spring chicken, but dating is fun at any age. Go out and meet people. Have fun.
On the other hand, never try to date when not prepared. This is over forty dating advice that you ought to listen to. Dating while not prepared (especially emotionally) could potentially hurt you as well as your new partner.
When it comes to over forty dating, there is one place that beats all for finding partners. That place is the Internet. There are specialty dating sites for virtually all interests and age groups.
Two main categories exist in over forty dating, those seeking partners their own age and those seeking younger partners. Both categories are well represented online.
