There is a massive market for products and treatments for hair growth. Absolutely everything is out there in a variety of formats including shampoos, gels, ointments, creams, lotions, serums, sprays, and so on, each brand and variation with their own fantastic claims as to how they will help your hair to grow faster and healthier, but do they work?

The answer is not an easy one and is more likely along the lines of some of the time they will work and for some of the people only. Hair grows at an average rate of around half an inch a month, but that is only an average. Your hair may grow faster or slower than this for a number of reasons.

If you are losing hair then it will depend on why you are suffering from hair loss. A normal rate of hair loss is about 100 hairs per day, any more than this it is considered abnormal hair loss and you should seek professional advice as to why this is the case.

If you go out and grab the first hair growth product you find on the shelf which is designed to inhibit certain hormones and your hair loss is due to a condition of the scalp that has nothing whatsoever to do with hormones then of course the treatment will not work. It's important to identify just why you are losing your hair so that you can choose an appropriate product.

Similarly, if the reason your hair isn't growing fast enough is because you are constantly damaging your hair with chemicals in hair products, then of course you aren't going to see results no matter what you use on your hair.

Healthy hair growth will also depend on your general state of health, the condition of your scalp, whether you have an existing health condition and are taking medication, and so on. Regardless of the reason for your hair loss or your particular hair problem, one of the most important things you can do to promote faster hair growth or any hair growth at all, is to improve the general condition of your scalp by ensuring that treat it gently, and that you don't do anything that is going to cause damage to your scalp or to your existing hair.

There is also another much less obvious way to improve the health of your hair and the rate at which your hair grows and that is treatment from within. It doesn't matter how many products you use on the surface of your scalp and your hair, if your scalp isn't getting everything it needs on the inside even before your hair starts to appear through the scalp, then the chances are you're not going to see the kind of results you would want or would expect from any hair product.

Of course your body needs the usual array of vitamins, minerals and nutrients to be found in eating a balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables but the benefits of Omega 3 fatty acids has only been discovered relatively recently and the facts are quite shocking.

How Omega 3 fatty acids can help promote healthy hair?

Omega 3 fatty acids are long chain essential fatty acids that the body needs to survive but which cannot product itself so we have to source Omega 3 fatty acids from our diet. The problem is, the most important fatty acids which include Eicosapentaenoic acid or EPA and Docosahexaenoic acid or DHA is only found in any reliable quantities in oily fish.

No one these days is going to eat masses of oily fish to improve their health otherwise they'll have to deal with the health problems associated with mercury and other toxins that are found in fish today which kind of defeats the object. Now here's where it gets really interesting.

We also need Omega 6 fatty acids, as much as we need Omega 3 in fact, and the opinion on what the ideal ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 is various from professional to professional but in an ideal world it would be 1:1. Unfortunately very few people are achieving this and some are consuming as much as fifty times more Omega 6 than Omega 3 which is disastrous when you realise what roles the different fatty acids play.

Omega 6 can increase inflammation, encourage the blood to thicken and can promote tumour growth. Amongst many other things Omega 3 counteracts this and decreases inflammation, thins the blood and inhibits tumour growth. Healthy skin and healthy hair depends on Omega 3 fatty acids so it makes sense to increase our consumption of Omega 3 particularly when we bear in mind that very few people are getting enough.

Omega 3 will increase the blood flow to the scalp thereby bringing essential nutrients and vitamins directly to the scalp; they will also reduce inflammation in the body which of course includes any inflammation on the scalp itself and will soothe skin problems. Any irritation or inflammation of the scalp will inhibit hair growth and can encourage hair loss.

Nothing is guaranteed of course but you can't do any harm whatsoever by increasing the amount of Omega 3 you have in your diet, in fact it may well be the one hair growth treatment you need to promote faster hair growth.

Did you know the number one supplement for celebrities for hair and skin care is omega 3 EPA ? For more information please visit our site.
