Going green is the latest fad and why not. After all, we should do things and adopt techniques that will ensure environment safety. So, why not go natural when it comes to upholstery cleaning? Upholstered furniture and the most common ones, sofas, bear the most pressure (literally) than other furniture. Kids, adults, animals etc. sit, jump, graze and do what not on the sofas, leaving them soiled, greased and dirty.

Hiring a professional to do the upholstery cleaning might bear a hole in your pocket. So, the best thing to do is, clean them on your own. You will find numerous ways to clean upholstered furniture, but the most of them should be used, as per the material of each piece. Here, are some basic methods and tips, to clean your upholstery furniture.

Before you go about upholstery cleaning, do make sure to check out the manufacturer's instructions or the manual. This way, you will come to know about the use of materials and how to take care of the furniture. Fibres, whether natural or synthetic require different cleaning methods, for example, if there is an indication, with the letter 'W', then the furniture can be cleaned with only water, if the tag has 'WS', then you can use cleaning products that are water based and if you find 'S', then the indication is towards the use of dry products and finally, if the mark is 'X', then you cannot use any product but only vacuum it.

Prior to the upholstery cleaning process, do make sure to remove the grime and dirt from the fabric. If needed, use a vacuum cleaner. If you have to clean some minute spots, then use a solution of mild detergent and warm water. Let the foam dry and then you can scrape it off from the stained spot.

You can also use some products that are made from natural ingredients. There is another solution mix, which is, a concoction of cornstarch and baking soda, in equal measures. Use the powder on the stained area and let it rest for at least an hour. After that, vacuum and remove the powder mix. This mix helps in the removal of any bad odour from the furniture.

If things still remain the same, it is time to hire a professional and get going with the upholstery cleaning task. It is important to clean your furniture on a regular basis, in order to maintain them. Always keep a tab on spots and stains, and do forget to take action immediately!
