When we go into an office reception or foyer we can often tell much about the type of company that resides there and how they do business. If you're that company you want to impress as much as possible: here are a few ideas how.

Keep It Clean

It may sound like an obvious thing to do, but your reception is the first thing your potential customer or business partner sees when they walk into your building and you really need to ensure that it's clean and tidy. While you obviously don't want any litter lying around the place, you also want to steer well clear of stains on the carpet or on the sofas where people wait: it just creates a bad impression if these things are there.

Company Literature

If you have a nice corporate brochure or an outline of the products or services your company owns then you should definitely display them prominently so that your guests have a full overview of who you are before the meeting. Also, by having these readily to hand, if a customer is visiting you then you can show them services that they might not have been aware of and you may be able to do more business with them.

A Permanently Manned Reception

Although this can be a higher cost, having someone at reception to be able to help or direct guests and to answer calls gives your organisation an extremely professional veneer. It's a rather underwhelming situation to find yourself in when upon arriving at a company you don't have anyone to announce your arrival to or even to direct you to the right person.

Art and Architecture

If you have the budget then a little bit of art in reception can really impress visitors - particularly if they're investors or potential partners. This can range to something on the walls to a sculpture but it can really change the tone of the room. Also, if your reception goes directly outside then an entrance canopy will not only alert them to which door is the one to your office, but also work as an advert to passing trade. If done tastefully they can also look impressive and will help your visitor feel at home.

As you can see there are plenty of ways to help your visitors feel welcome when they come to your office, and there are plenty more. What is your visitor's first experience of your office like?
