Pop-up structures aren't anything new, yet the way this traditional temporary structure has evolved recently has lead us to several interesting designs in today's cities. Here are just a few of the more outstanding and iconic examples in the modern world.

Pop-Up Shot Prada

Being a major fashion range and brand Prada has to make sure that it is seen as cutting edge in everything it does and it is no surprise that it embraces this latest quirky trend. Because they wanted to challenge the idea of what was a traditional "shop" structure they commissioned Roberto Bacicchi - one of the most exciting architects of the twenty-first century - to design their new stores.

Bacicchi didn't disappoint as he put together a store the looked the silhouette of the bridge Mirabeau. It was at once both shocking and intriguing, demanding the shopper explore further and cleverly tempting him or her into the store, where, of course they would see the lavish goods that Prada makes.

Street Kitchens

There are few countries in the world that don't have one form of street kitchen or other. Generally associated with soup kitchens that provide warmth and sustenance for the homeless and other vagrants, street kitchens actually provide all sorts of food to all sorts of customers.

Street Kitchens will commonly pray on the drunk who are desperate for some food as they stagger out of a club or late-night pub realising that food is something they desperately need in order to feel reasonably well the following day.

That said, some street kitchens provide plenty of excellent food and the convenience is partly that because of the lack of preparation time you can eat quickly and wonder off with your food on your way.

The Shake Shack, New York

Based in the very middle of Madison Square Park in New York the Shake Shack is another food dispenser, but this one has a very big difference. Renowned for the quality of food on sale from it, both tourists and locals will queue right round the square in order to sample of the world famous hamburgers - which some even claim to be the best in the world.

As you can see the modes pop-up structure has come a long way from its humble beginnings as a soup kitchen for the homeless. These days they can be trendy and cater for all sorts of people, from those seeking a hearty burger to the most fashionable of shoppers. Keep an eye out for the next one near you.
