Many of us long for the warm summer months when we don't have to wrap up warmly and battle the elements in order to feel comfortable outside, however at times it can be too hot. Here are a few tips to keeping your cool in the summer.

Stay Hydrated

There aren't many doctors in the world these days who don't recommend drinking a fair amount of water every day in order to stay hydrated, and given that we are seventy per cent water it's easy to see that by sweating in the warmer months we can badly change that. Side effects of dehydration can be headaches and in severe cases fainting, so make sure you keep a bottle of water or some other cool liquid next to you at your desk while you work and you can decrease the risk of these side effects.

Stay In The Shade

Of course it's nice to get out into the sun and try to get ourselves a tan, but from time to time we do need to be careful about overheating and therefore by positioning ourselves in the shade, either in the shadow of a building or a more purpose-specific structure such as a brise soleil, we can ensure that we will stay cooler and more comfortable.

Go For A Long Swim

If you're near an outdoor swimming pool or at the beach then the temptation to take a dip can be hard to resist. The water will instantly cool your skin, and you can get in some light exercise while you're at it. Just be sure not to go in deeper than your swimming ability allows, otherwise you could find yourself in a dangerous situation.

Dress For The Elements

Just like in the winter when we put more clothes on to keep our bodies warm, in the summer months it makes sense to wear clothes that are made of lighter fabrics and perhaps don't cover so much of our bodies. We can include wearing less clothes in that as well - after all, there's no point in having a thin t-shirt if you wear ten of them at once, although it would look rather amusing!

As you can see there are many ways to keep cool during the summer so as to avoid severe dehydration and the associated health risks involved. When summer comes round, how do you like to stay cool?
