Article Directory :: Business - General Articles
The Boardroom is often the place where the head of the company has his meetings, and as such is often especially opulent, but what does your boardroom say about the way you do business? Here are a few common features and what they mean.
Original Art
Having original art in your boardroom isn't something that's cheap to buy or install, so you know that the type of company you're dealing with either is extremely well-off or really needs to pretend that they are. Consequently, the managing director or CEO in a place like this is going to be expected run the meeting - they'll have had to be assertive to rise to this position in the first place - so if you want the meeting to run to your plan and schedule then you had better set an agenda pretty quickly.
Long Tables
Having a long table in your boardroom is an interesting practice that seems to be almost universal. It certainly makes sense if your board actually does meet in there and there are actually quite a few of them, otherwise it's often for the purpose of displaying power, rather than having any practical use. However, it seems to be expected these days and to invite someone into your boardroom for a meeting round a small table does seem quite unimpressive.
Interior Canopies
If a company wants to appear to be cutting edge, or certainly a bit different from the norm, then often its art will be less common. Interior canopies are a great example of this because although they serve no immediate purpose in a boardroom they do display an understanding of the type of company the occupiers want to be, while also displaying the success of the company as well.
Flat Screen TV/Monitor
Originally having this in the boardroom was just for show, however, in the light of technical developments of the last fifteen or twenty years they are now actually extremely practical. People often make presentations in the boardroom, and this means that the presence of such technology can often be extremely useful, even more so if it's connected to the internet as it enables facts to be verified during the meeting.
As you can see, the psychology and lay out of the boardroom can be both complex and daunting - there are many ways to present the room and these can mean a lot about the company. What does your boardroom say about you?
