Getting rid of cold sores is no fun, but it certainly does not have to be difficult. Fact is, some of the best ways to achieve this are simple, natural cold sore remedies. Below are some of my favorites.

Effectively getting rid of cold sores requires matching the right cold sore treatment to the current stage of your sore. It also requires that you act quickly.

The first stage you will experience is an itching or tingling sensation in the target area. You are feeling the movement of the virus up the nerve fiber to the surface.

The surface end of the nerve is sending you an early warning sign. If you react quickly and correctly at this time, you will slow down the virus. You can often stop it completely.

This is what others do for getting rid of cold sores fast.

Start taking lysine capsules immediately. Most folks using this therapy will take about 3000 milligrams per day during an event.

Start applying garlic oil right away. Garlic is not only very anti-virus, but has the amazing ability to pass right through the skin to the infection site.

Your best outcome will be to use fresh cut or crushed garlic cloves. Apply the oil directly to the sore area. For convenience, you can buy garlic oil in gel-caps too.

You can use garlic during the entire outbreak. It would be wise to do so. If you do not like garlic, use oregano oil instead. It works, just not as well as garlic.

Start applying ice as soon as possible. The replication process of the herpes virus is the cause of a cold sore. Ice, or other cold object, will discourage this from happening.

Now, what about getting rid of cold sores that have opened up and are weeping?

Once your sore bursts open, the herpes virus has done most of its damage. From this point on you are in the healing stage.

Your body is creating a thick fluid that weeps from the sore. It is to wash away as much of the new virus particles as possible.

You can wait for it to heal on its own, but it will take time. Better yet, you can really speed healing up with these simply powerful treatments.

You must not use ice anymore. Ice will slow down the healing process. Begin applying hot compresses. Heat greatly speeds up healing by bringing blood to the scene.

For getting rid of cold sores, warm tea bags are the best way to apply heat to the area. Black tea is great. Mint tea, or black with mint, will work much better.

When a scab forms over the sore, it can dry out and crack. This will slow healing. Keep it well oiled and soft by continuing to apply the garlic or oregano oil.

You should also be cleansing the area on a regular basis. Use alcohol or hydrogen peroxide. I prefer peroxide because it provides extra healing oxygen.

And, do not stop taking the lysine. Take it until you are totally cured. This will help keep that cold sore from turning around and coming right back at you.

Some folks take a maintenance daily dose of lysine to prevent future sores. This usually amounts to one or two capsules per day.

There are other very good cold sore remedies to try, but the above methods work well - even for the very worst attacks. They will work for you too.
