If you own a pool table and use it often, you probably already know just how dirty it can get. What you may not know is that you really should clean it really good at least once a month. When you let too much hand chalk and other dirt settle onto the felt, you will also notice that it will eventually affect the way the balls move on it. No need to fret, cleaning it up is a pretty simple thing to do and it shouldn't take you more half an hour to do. You will first need to begin with cleaning the very edges of your pool table. This would be the non-felt part of it. You should brush off any dirt there is onto the floor or even onto the felt if you want to. Now, take a standard cleaner and a soft cloth to wipe off the edges. Take a hand brush so you can sweep the dirt that is on your felt into the pockets. You should do this very gently so you don't rip the felt on the table. Just be concerned about the dirt and any chalk you can actually see at this time. Take a small hand held vacuum and start running it along your felt. This is going to get any of the dust you might have missed when you were brushing it off with the brush. Next take the hose attachment and put it on your regular vacuum and start cleaning out your pockets where the balls roll into. You should make sure that you have a cleaner especially for cleaning pool tables. You will need to use this for any deep cleaning of the felt that might be needed. Put your cleaning product on the felt and let it sit for about a minute. Take a cloth and remove the cleaner. Make sure to wipe every bit of the cleaner off of your felt. Your cleaner you use shouldn't leave it feeling wet or damp. Now go ahead and wipe off the rest of it on the outside. Make sure to include the legs and all the area around where the balls go after they have traveled down the different ramps when playing the game. A good furniture polish will work for this part of the cleaning. When you are done with your cleaning, it's always a good idea to cover it. This in fact is always a good idea. If you cover your table when you aren't using it then it's going to help keep the table a lot cleaner and when it comes to cleaning time, the job will be a lot easier to do.
