For those with dark circles under their eyes, there are many eye treatments available that range from home remedies to surgical procedures. The degree of darkness under the eyes can vary, so the treatments might be minor for some and more intensive for others. Cost can be a factor too in considering which treatment is right for you. Let's look at some of the options to determine what fits your needs.

Grandma's Recipes:

Everyone has a remedy that their Grandma passed down for all types of skin care treatments. Some of Grandma's recipes or home remedies are more effective than others and some depend on the intensity of the dark circles under your eyes. But all are certainly worth a try as they utilize common items found in any home.

Tea bags that have been refrigerated or cucumber slices are common solutions for mildly dark circles under the eyes. They will relieve the blood vessels that have become constricted and soothe eyes that have circles due to stress or a lack of sleep. As a long-term solution or one that relieves very dark circles, this will probably not work.

Eye Creams and Concealers:

Many light creams contain Vitamin E, chamomile or Vitamin C that have proven effective in reducing dark circles under the eyes. Concealers are a great option if you want to use it under makeup to cover up the dark circles but they do not provide the means to rid your skin of the circles. A concealer should be lighter than your skin color and contain a yellow tint to effectively reduce the blueness that can be found in dark circles. Some night creams promote reduction in dark circles with the ingredient retinol that is known to increase Vitamin A in the skin.

However, you should use caution when using these types of Eye cream products as these companies are not FDA approved, nor are they required to prove their claims. Chemical and Surgical Procedures In terms of cost, a chemical peel would be the next step beyond over the counter creams to try to remedy the dark circles under the eyes.

Although painful, this process can be very effective in reducing the dark circles if hyperpigmentation is the root cause of the problem. Chemical peels essentially exfoliate the skin and remove the damaged upper layers so that the skin is rejuvenated and the dark circles are usually eliminated.

Many people opt to use dermal filler procedures that utilize collagen or other products to eliminate the dark circles by covering them up. However, these procedures need to be repeated over and over because the dermal filler is only a temporary treatment that does not last for a long time.

A procedure that can be effective in completely eliminating the dark circles is laser resurfacing which is more expensive and can be painful as well, but is known to reduce those veins around the eyes that cause dark circles.
