I have noticed a curious thing over the years when I talk to any God-minded person about prosperity. When I ask them why they want to prosper, here is the first thing I hear.

"I just want to be able to give and help others!"

It's almost always the first thing that comes out of their mouth, if I push them further they will start to tell me what is really behind their desire to prosper, but this statement is always right up there at the top.

Well, let's break this down. First of all, we do need to know "why" we are doing anything. The "why" reveals the real motivation and heart behind what I am doing. If you are only thinking about what you want and never think about why, your motivation can be very short lived.

People say, "I want to lose 20 pounds so I'll going on a diet", if they never stop to ask themselves why they want to lose those 20 pounds their growling stomachs will defeat them. And your why needs to be as powerful and as meaningful as possible.

If the why is just about looking good in a bathing suit for your vacation, that's not going to last. But if the why has to do with adding another 10 years to your life or being healthy enough to raise your children—this will have more meaning to you and will carry you through the tough times.

If that is the case, what is so surprising about people who are God-minded saying that their "why" behind wanting to be prosperous is so they can give and help others?

I really don't doubt their sincerity about wanting to help others; it's a godly way of thinking. But it's almost like they have to say that first before they could feel comfortable about having any prosperity for themselves—and that's the problem.

You don't need an excuse to prosper; it's what God wants for you anyway. You don't need to justify it by saying you are going to use it to help others, the scriptures say if a man doesn't take care of his own family first he is worst than an infidel. So it is not only your right to prosper, it is your responsibility to prosper.

And finally here is something that shoots down the "I just want to help others" excuse. If you are all about helping others just do it, you don't have to wait for prosperity in order to do. In fact, if you are saying that you can't or will not help others until you prosper, then can you really say that helping others is your greatest motivation?

It is certainly something to think about because most God-minded people have never been told they could prosper, never mind being told they SHOULD prosper as a part of daily life.

So remember, you don't need an excuse, just accept it.
