Like most single people today you may have decided to give online dating a try. After all what's the wort that can happen? You get replies from some dogs or even worse you get ignored by all the good looking people. But maybe something afr worse can come out from online dating sites. You may become the target of an online dating site scammer.

These scammers will target lonely people online and take advantage of their honest and trusting good nature. After all anyone can pretend to be anyone or anything over the Internet. It's very simple to create a very elaborate online identity that is completely fictitious. Unless you know what to look for it may be impossible to see through their scam.

To stay safe online, keep an eye out for these "warning signs" that someone who has contacted you may not be who they say they are and are only out to scam you.

- Ask you to talk or chat using an outside messaging service or email account

- Vanish mysteriously from the site, often after being caught and removed

- Talk about "destiny" or "fate" when meeting you

- Claim to be recently widowed or new to online dating

- Ask for your address or contact info under the guise of sending flowers or gifts or a "surprise"

- Make a lot of grammatical and spelling errors

- Say they live in the U.S. but are currently traveling abroad sometimes on a missionary trip

- Always eventually ask you for money or banking information

If you have become emotionally invested in someone tyou have met online there are steps you can take to verify their identity and find out if they're for real or not. You can begin with an Online Infidelity Investigation. This is where you trace their email back to online personal ads. When you see the same email address attached to different ads with different pictures or in different states you will know you're being scammed. Or you may find that their ads on different sites have drastically different interests or occupations. One ad may list them as heterosexual, one homosexual and another social network may list them as married.

Another step you can take to protect yourself is a reverse email search investigation. This way you can trace their email address back to their real name address and phone number and verify their identity. also if you have already been the victim of an online scam you may be able to bring the scammer to justice and get your money back.
