One of the biggest assets you can develop as a business owner is an entrepreneurial mind set. This will determine, to a great extent, how successful your business will be. Let me explain...

Being your own boss sounds great. There's no one to tell you what to do. Which is exactly why most people fail. There is no one to tell them what to do, so they do nothing or very little. You must make the shift in your mind from employee to owner. As an entrepreneur you know there is no paycheck every week. You develop a sense of personal responsibility for your future, and do what it takes to create it.

Sometimes the average person treats their business more as a hobby. Working on it, if they feel like it, and hoping it just might "fly". With an entrepreneurial spirit, you use goal directed thinking. Keeping goals in front of you, never losing sight of where you want to go, and what you want to be. With the mindset of owning a successful business you understand the 9 to 5 schedule is over. There are deadlines to make, and promises to keep. If you work from home you must resist temptation, and distractions that will keep you from getting work done. You must take yourself seriously and see yourself as the CEO of the company. When you think like a CEO, you project confidence, commitment, and determination to succeed, even under difficult circumstances.

And there will be difficult circumstances. The money investment scares many promising business owners. You risk your sense of security, peace of mind, regular vacations, and free time. But you understand the rewards are worth it.

You must be a risk taker. You cannot be afraid to go outside of your safety zone. You must calculate the risk and determine if it is worth taking. If you are afraid to take chances, your business will never succeed. Make sure the risk factor is close to zero, do your homework, and then go for it!

You have to battle your fears to be successful. If you start considering everything that could go wrong, fear will take over, and you will lose your chance of success. With a success-oriented mindset, you get excited about the possibilities. You crave the opportunity to be creative, and shape your own future. That means careful planning, and re-adjusting, taking calculated risks and learning from the ideas that fail. An investment in your future is never wasted.

Another great habit entrepreneurs cultivate is personal development. Learn to overcome procrastination, get organized, boost your motivation, and manage your time.

Develop an entrepreneurial mind set and become obsessed with the potential of your business!
