When you think of Switzerland in summer, do you think of walking, mountain flowers and cows with bells? Probably yes, but Switzerland in summer has much more to offer than this. It is an ideal destination for everyone from extreme sport junkies to young families.

Morgins, just south of Lake Geneva is a good example of a Swiss village offering everything from the most extreme mountain activities, to quiet family holidays.

The village is a quiet, traditional Swiss village, a ski resort in winter, but in summer offers mountain biking, walking, paragliding and high altitude hiking plus lots of activities for families - a lovely outdoor pool, indoor and outdoor tennis, archery, clay pigeon shooting, and miles of walking. There is a lovely river walk with covered barbecue areas, summer markets and festivals with spectacular firework displays echoing off the mountains. Everywhere you walk, you can hear the cow bells, with the farmers bringing the milk to the village each morning.

The surprise is that you are also just 25 minutes away from the Swiss Riviera on Lake Geneva, with lovely small beaches on the lakeside with amazing views of the Alps and Mont Blanc. You can swim in clear water, dive from platforms, and enjoy lunches at the many beach bars and picturesque towns such as Montreux with its world famous music festival and statue of Freddy Mercury. He loved Lake Geneva so much it featured on the cover of Queen's last album "Made in Heaven."

Temperatures in the summer are surprisingly high, allowing miles of vineyards to thrive. Old paddle steamers cruise around the Lake, offering lovely views and Agatha Christie style lunches, or you could visit the Chateau de Chillon, famously associated with Byron. Vevey is a beautiful town, once home to Charlie Chaplin, now home to Nestle with a summer street entertainment festival.

There are boats to hire from all towns on the lake, from pedaloes to speed boats for water sports, or you could even try Hawaiian rafting.

As a base to explore the area, Morgins in the Portes du Soleil has a lot going for it. Being right on the French/Swiss border allows visitors easy access to attractions in both countries, and being only 20 minutes from lake Geneva means you have easy access to a beach when you need to cool off in the lake.

All in all, Switzerland in summer can offer an amazing range of holidays, and Morgins is a great base to take advantage of both the mountain and the lake.

Mountain-Plus offers a wide range of ski holidays in Switzerland, and summer holidays in Switzerland, in the beautiful alpine resort of Morgins.
