Most beginners in internet marketing start learning about their business from a starting point of zero knowledge. Working on the internet is nothing like anything else you have ever experienced. It is a big understatement to say that there is a lot to learn; the learning curve is huge. Everything is new and confusing; a lot of things are quite frightening.

The sheer volume of advice and information aimed at internet marketing beginners can cause confusion. This confusion contributes to the reason so many newbies give up before they get started on the real work of internet marketing. Panic can easily build up when you need to make decisions about things you never knew existed before today.

Panic = lack of control.

How can you take control of your internet marketing business?

Learn the 3 secrets to taking control of an internet marketing business.

Secret number 1: Many of the promotions you receive will do the same thing. They might even do the same thing in exactly the same way. If you don't have any prior experience of working online, you won't be able to see this.

Take choosing an autoresponder as an example. You get to know the basics of what an autoresponder is for, and you understand that you need one for your business. Until you start marketing, you will only have a vague idea of how you will want to make use of it. For instance, will you want to build one subscriber list or several?

You might be tempted to choose a system offering multiple options. This is not necessarily a wise move and it can incur unnecessary expense that will injure your cash flow. I'll explain why this is so.

If you are a beginner at internet marketing, you might spend your first year concentrating on building one list in one particular niche. If you are paying a fee to have multiple lists, this is a waste of money. It is better to choose the most basic item that will do the job. Later, when your business expands, and outgrows this system, you can move your contact list to a different autoresponder company if necessary. You will, however, find that most companies have different scales of membership and all you will need to do is upgrade to the next level.

Secret number 2: Price does not always reflect true value. You will be invited to join any number of programs that promise to help you make money. Membership fees vary enormously. Some of the least expensive programs offer great value for money. Some of the high price ones deliver a good service, but are not actually giving good value for the price they charge.

You won't be guaranteed to get the best by paying the highest price. Two of the best beginners' internet marketing training courses I have tested are two of the cheapest ones I have seen online. Then again I have tried another one that is equally as good, but which comes with a jaw-dropping price ticket. When you are starting out think basic and buy basic. The option to upgrade is one of the marvels of internet life.

Secret number 3: The most important aspect of making money online is not who teaches you, it is how you apply what you learn. There are many people offering online training courses for internet marketing beginners. Pick one mentor, and stick with that mentor until you fully understand how internet marketing works.

The key to making money online is to be consistent. You might not pick the greatest internet marketing coach in the world, but you won't be able to judge until you get some experience. Don't get sidetracked by a new flashy program (shiny new things are an everyday distraction when you work online). You will not work consistently and effectively if you constantly bounce around trying out a bit of one program and part of another. You will do better working systematically through the teachings of a mediocre coach that you would by chopping and changing between various systems.

Online coaches and gurus are individuals and their style of teaching varies a great deal. When choosing a mentor or internet marketing coach pick one who makes you feel comfortable. Don't enrol with a coach or marketing guru who promises easy results for beginners. Internet marketing requires some hard work if you are going to become successful working online. "Opportunity is missed by most people because it comes dressed in overalls and looks like work."

Get ready to put on those beginners' internet marketing overalls and get down to work.
