When starting a business, one factor that is always considered is money. If it is a home based business you are planning to start, you will save on certain expenses such as office space. But there is no truth in the myth that you won't need ANY money when running your own work-at-home business.

Be financially prepared. This is very essential when starting a home based business. You should have an organized plan regarding the financial aspect of your business. Take note of the expenses. What are these expenses? Is there a way to minimize your expenses?

Computer and software. The first thing and perhaps one of the most important devices you will need when starting your home based business is a computer. You have to find and invest in a very dependable computer system. This will be your "partner" in running your business. Also, you have to look for software and program applications that you can and will use in your operations and transactions. You will need a very effective anti-virus software to protect your system. You will also need MS office, bookkeeping and accounting programs.

Internet connection. Of course, you will need an internet connection to process orders, communicate with customers and advertise your business. Although you can conduct and promote your business offline, marketing online is also a very important part of any new business. Communication is easier and faster when you are using the web. It is much cheaper to send e-mails and instant messages than calling your customers and potential clients especially if they are in another country.

A web host and domain name for your website. Having your own business website is also important because it will give your company more exposure and recognition. It will be very convenient for your customers if you have a site that they can purchase items from, ask questions or track their order. You need to purchase your own web hosting service form a reliable host. Make sure that people can access your site at all times (with no downtimes). Also, don't forget to purchase your own domain name so it will be easier for people to remember your web address.

Marketing costs. There are two kinds of marketing tools, a paid one and a free one. You have to have at least one or two paid marketing strategy.

You can then take advantage of free online marketing tools. You can try using forums, online press release sites, online groups or communities, newsletters, blogs, social bookmarking sites etc. You can also submit to article directories and search engines. You can also try direct mail marketing.

You just have to explore these marketing tools for you to find out which are the best and right tools for your kind of business. It is a must to take the time to research every strategy you for your business. Never try to plunge into anything that you don't have enough knowledge about. Make a list of all the expenses you are expecting to come across while starting your own home based business.
