Do you still recall Ilka Flood of the Enlightened Networker's article entitled, Google Sneezed Did You Catch A Cold? Well, guess what? Google has sneezed yet again! And I am catching the cold.
Google has recently launched its own counterpart to the Facebook "like" with its very own Google "+1." Here's how it works, as outlined in Google's website:
"The +1 button is a shorthand for "this is pretty cool" or "you should check this out." Click +1 to publicly give something your stamp of approval. Your +1's can help friends, contacts, and everyone else on the web in finding the best stuff when they search. Sometimes it is easier to find exactly what you are looking for when someone you know already found it. Get recommendations for the things that you find interesting, right when you want them, in your search results.
The next time you are trying to remember that bed and breakfast that your buddy was raving about, or when you just happen to find a great charity to support, a +1 could really help you out. Just make sure that you are signed in to your Google Account.
In order to +1 things, you must first have your very own public Google profile. This will help people find out who has recommended that tasty recipe or that great campsite. When you create a profile, it is visible to everyone as well as connections with your email address can easily find it.
Your +1's are stored in a new tab on your Google profile. You can then show your +1's tab to the world, or you can keep it private and to just use it personally to manage that ever-expanding record of things that you so love around the web."
In short, the Google +1 is some sort of validation tool that you could use among friends in your social network. Of course, before you could take advantage of this, you have to install your Google profile first. This is such a marvelous way to attract everyone who is already relying on the Google search engine to expand their search experience further by clicking the +1 button and see who and what are the "most highly recommended" by peers. Really similar to the Facebook "like" except that you are not on Facebook but on Google.
Are you catching on?
