Article Directory :: Writing & Speaking Articles
In a previous post, we have discussed the fundamentals in writing blog posts and introduced the concept of HEO or human emotion optimization.
A coined phrase that I first heard from Ty Tribble's course on MLM Secrets, I became curious about HEO and thought I'd search more on the Internet about it but surprisingly, there's not much information about it.Waylaid by the more pressing and popular SEO goal, HEO is neglected. But, we are missing out a lot because more than writing blog posts for the search engine crawlers or Google, we should be actually writing for our readers.
More than coming up with the right keywords, which we admittedly do for the search engines, we should also think of blog elements that reach out to persons actually reading our articles. As human beings, we have different and varying thought processes but for blog post writing, there are actually just three basic blog elements that we could employ for HEO purposes.
3 key blog elements for HEO purposes
Curiosity
People are inherently curious.
We want to know what's happening in our families and friends' lives; what's happening in the community; in our church; in our workplace; in our social groups; in our country; in our world. That's why we have newsletters, bulletin boards, newspapers; books; that we'd like to have access to in order to know. So, in making ourblog post headlines, we should work on the headlines that could attract curiosity.
Report news that people are interested in
Another way of appealing to the human emotions is knowing a little about trending in interests. Breaking news, human interest, search engine interest, surveys, polls, current events, etcetera. Good social networks that you could look into are Twitter and Facebook. Look for trending topics in Twitter as well as the wall comments in Facebook for hints about what they're talking about.
Self-interest
Humans, unlike the search engine crawlers, have some level of self-interest that we couldn't really quantify. As we are all unique individuals, we are all different in terms of what interests us the most. But a crucial thing to ask yourself before writing a blog post is this: What's in it for the reader? We need to communicate to the level of our readers and speak to their desires and needs; bring something to the emotional level. In writing blog posts, we need to speak to them in their own language.
