The first lady is making headlines, and it's not because of her contributions to making America great. Her toned arms have been the talk of the town ever since she started wearing sleeveless dresses and blouses on the campaign trail to the White House in 2008.

She's actually been voted as one of Maxim's annual top 100 list of the hottest women in the world for 2009 (she's in the 90 range, really No. 93, which is still not bad for a first lady, considering this is the first time one has been on the list). Those toned arms are becoming a trademark, and a source of inspiration for some women.

At 44, Michelle Obama has two kids and a very demanding career, but she's shown the world that you are never too busy to take care of yourself and stay healthy at the same time. Obama has said she exercises in 90-minute workout three times a week with a personal trainer.

The first lady told People magazine that during an average day in the White House, she and the president get up at 5:30 a.m. and usually work out and have breakfast. However arm exercises aren't enough to get toned arms. Like all body toning tips, a person has to get rid of body fat from all over, meaning you can't spot reduce and just get rid of fat from the arms.

You need to cut your calories intake and lose the excess fat. Both cardio exercises and strength training are needed to speed up metabolism and burn body fat. Moderate intensity cardio for 30 minutes, five times a week or vigorous intensity cardio for 20 minutes, three times a week can help you reduce overall body fat. The arm exercises sculpt the muscle underneath, which should protrude as the fat fades. It's unclear what kind of exercises Obama does to maintain her buff arms, but it appears to be both back and arm workouts, Diamond Bar Personal Trainer suggest, She may be working out on machine, dumbbells, bands or using her body weight they think.

To get Obama's arms, a suitable set of dumbbells (five pounds or more) and doing 12 to 15 of each exercise -- hammer curls, dips, to exercise the back of the arm, shoulder presses should help tone up arms. Another component is to maintain a healthy weight.

Diamond Bar Personal trainer suggest that you focus on a nice, balanced diet, with lean protein, whole grains, fruits and vegetables. When you're trying to maintain muscles, choose lean protein, like fish, chicken without the skin, eggs, turkey breast, since those are great sources of protein.

The protein portions should be four ounces during a meal. All this might sound complex, but an average woman without a personal trainer, an in-house chef and a hectic schedule can easily obtain tone arms it just takes focus, motivation and patience. Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day!
