We are brutal when it comes to self evaluation of our body. We constantly think about how we don't like this part or that part. Others wish that their part looked like your part. It is completely confusing and can easily make you overwhelmed. You need to make a list when you want a new exercise routine or have a new workout goal. That list will benefit you and play a big role in helping you reach your goal. Once you make the list take some serious time to do the following steps. The steps will help you start working out and take you all the way to the end.

Organize your priorities: Look through your list and put it in order of what you consider most important down to what can wait for another day. That will help you develop a workout plan and maintain focus while you exercise. If you try to work on everything at one time it is often distracting, unsatisfying, and then you lose interest.

Set a realistic expectation: Now that you have focused on one body part you need to do one of two things: You will either consult a personal trainer on the best exercises and workouts for that part, or; you will do some research and figure out what exercises and workouts to do. Don't just assume you know - research! A little helpful hint is that your friends are often not experts just because they may workout.

Document your activity: Keep a journal of how often you workout and what specific exercises you are doing, how the workout went that day, if you are sore, and how the workout felt. That journal will show patterns of how you workout. It will help you determine what exercises work the best for you too.

Don't over-measure yourself: This is the very most difficult part of the process. You are going to be tempted to be measuring your target part or body weight for gain/loss. Do not do that every day. Once a week is the maximum you should even consider it. If you become obsessed with that part of it all the joy of reaching your goal will be sucked out of you. You will not see daily changes and it will bother you to be constantly reminded of that.

Enjoy your results: When your target part from your list starts to show your results - enjoy them. The first one is the toughest to achieve. Now that you see that your efforts do pay off the rest will become easier because you have established proper expectations for the entire process.

Revisit the list: Go back to your list and put a thin, lean check mark by number one and start the process over again with number two. Remember to still exercise and workout number one. You will find that workouts that are for maintaining are awesome because they constantly remind you that you did it.
